Went over to Beanie&Moo today at Mercedes of MK

Took the hub off and dis-assembled the bearing etc, only to find that i've been sent the wrong fucking bearing kit.

FML.

The invoice, email and item description all say FRONT bearing kit. Dicks.

Can't fault BeanieMoo at all though, brilliant guys and know exactly what they're doing, just means that because Camskill fucked up an order I have to leave my car in Milton Keynes and Chris very kindly dropped me back to Aylesbury for a little petrol moneys. Hopefully have the car back tomorrow evening if I can get a lift up there.

Right the car came back from being beached on a ramp and the wheel bearing was sorted after the right part was sourced.

The new alloys and tyres are finally on, 3mm spacer shims arrived today so as soon as i was home from work they were put on. JUST clear the brakes..but the standard ones looked even closer to the brakes so i'll leave them as they are for now. Look pretty decent considering the car isn't lowered.

This is how the rear drivers tyre sat when it was taken off

Pretty sure there's meant to be read on there somewhere..

How it sits:

The springs hadn't really settled in those pics, it does sit slightly lower thankfully.

Will be getting he tracking/alignment done tomorrow or some time this week to make sure the tyres don't go bald like the last ones.

Running Toyo Proxe T1Rs on the rear and some Nankangs on the front, not sure what model off the top of my head, but they stick like shit to a blanket.

Very quick update on this..not that anybody looks at this.

Had the very common problem of the 'pipes from hell' corroding so badly they leak.

Basically with the engine being at the middle and having radiator and heater core up front, there is a lot of pipe work under the car, where the heater pipes come from under the car and into the bay, they corrode against the bracket that supports them from vibrations over time.

This happened to mine.

The blue s the oxidization from leaking coolant etc.

Took a trip to Rogue motorsport (MR2 specialist) and had the pipes bypassed with 19mm rad hose all the way to the front

Why are they called the pipes from hell?
Because the bastards go over the fuel tank under the car, meaning to get them out you have to drop the fuel tank and the fuel lines to get the fuckers down. These pipes are joined at each end, then rad hose is run down the length of the car, going down the sides of the tank and over existing brackets on the car.

Unfortunately I still can't manage to get all the air out of the system, considerign it holds 14 litres of coolant, i'l just keep the heaters off as much as i can.

The rough running has also been sorted, it was down to the cambelt being out by 1 tooth on the exhaust cam, had that re-timed and runs sweet as a nut!

Had the pleasure of driving one a few years ago. With the engine in the middle and drive at the back, it just seemed to be constantly on the edge.

And also, the car will be leaving me for another week..on my fucking birthday *insert sarcastic sympathy here*

Beaniemoo will be holding the car so the rust on the sills can be ripped out, replaced with clean metal and protected and sprayed. Then time for MOT at the end of the month...joy.

I love it. Being the age it is, it has a few problems but that's expected.
I push it every now and then, keeping it in high revs keeps it very responsive and able to do quite a lot.
It does step out every now and then, and with the weight being over the rear it does snap back a lot, so it's not really a drift car, but i don't use it like that.

Idea is, the more i pour into it now, the sooner the new engine shall be going in and the sooner i can enjoy it properly in all of it's possible glory.

And at the same time i can remind myself of how much of a hole it's putting in my pocket.
Luckily the rust is one of the last things on the list of preperation.
After that it's coilovers (just because the struts etc are so rusty, not worth just getting springs)

Then engine, then bodywork. (spray)

Of course, plan on keeping it for a good few years if possible.

Not sure whether to go turbo or V6 conversion yet though when i do finish everything else.

Power and sound of a dump valve from the turbo or the sound of the engine itself and the monumental torque from the v6 aswell as bulletproof reliability..

Major update on this.

The past week, Beaniemoo (Chris) has had the car to grind out my sils to replace the rust ith some fresh metal.

So here's some of the pictures he's sent me so far.

Oh dear.

Anyways, Chris battled on and ground all of that shite out of there, then commenced onto positioning and fitting new metal for the inner sills.

And from what I can tell, this is the new inner parts that he made.

Not too sure if that's correct as i don't really know what i'm looking at from jsut photos, but i'm happy with the work so far!

Yesterday he got hold of the mk1 Astra sills that will be going on the outer part of the car, so waiting to hear back from him on the progress of that and then after that i guess it will be Undersealing and painting!
