Yeah i get ya now.. im guessing if he puts the + and - onto the door switch in the wrong way then it'll blow the neon all together then??
Danzman - Go and buy yourself a multi-meter, its gonna be the easiest way for you rather than doing all this head-unit stuff.
Coonper - Thanks for the little advice.

Agreed! Multimeter ftw!
Although a car bulb would do the job nicely to test for voltages!

Thats it mate!! You've just come up with a better idea.
When he comes back, why dont he take the interior light assembly out of the roof lining, disconnect it, then use that to test which is positive and which is negative??

Hiya folks - not to thread hijack, but as a source of information user 'Ace_Alex' and I have wired up his neons using the switch 'button' on the door. By lifting up the drivers side carpet (by undoing bolt) you can see an earth point which is easy to get to. The Two wires which have been mentioned earlier - one white and one brown are switched live.
We managed to splice into the white wire - in order to gain power - however did so from where the white wire goes into the car cabin - with a mass of other wires bunched together through a gromet. This again is located behind the carpet on the drivers side - on the righter msot side of the vehicle only 6 inches up the height of the car (pictures will be coming soon)
Anywho we have made an error somewhere - DO NOT ATTEMPT what we have done because: we intended neons to come on when driver door opened - instead they come on when said door is closed.
Therefore with that piece of info, does anyone know what we need to do in order to rectify the situation? Help would be much appreciated!!
Cheers Jase

Thats a funny one mate! Surely if the switch needs to be closed in order for the neons to come on, then the switch will need to be closed for the interior light to work...?
It would be worth trying using the other live (brown) which goes into the switch, but i would think this other wire would be permanent live.

Cheers for response coonper - We have tried what you articulated above today to no avail - bizarely it had the same affect as before the neons were happy to come on when the door was closed... but not when it was open.
What are your thoughts on the following ideas: 1) somehow wire the red neon wire into both the passenger and the driver side white cable (create a split in the red wire to feed off of each door)... or 2) connect the red wire to the white for instance, and the black (hesitant to say) to the brown rather than the earthing point as before!
Would pictures help??
Jase

Ok i have no idea what im talking about really but could he not just get to the interior light on the roof im guisng all that will have is a pos, neg and earth.
he just connects pos to pos, earth to earth and neg to neg, and then leave the switch be and as the switch is opened or closed or whatever the pwoer that runs to the normal interios light will also run alon the wires he just put in 9by snipping into OE wires) and therefore light up his neons whenver that is lit up/?
