Default ideas for boot install please!

i know this has been asked a thousand times but i've tried looking through threads and it justs gets more confusing!
i want to get a soundsystem together for a boot install.
i have a pioneer dvd headunit and alpine xd front speakers.
ideally i was looking at getting 2 12" subs and an amp, wanted to stick to alpine or pioneer but by the looks of it people don't recommend these for soundsystems?
don't really want to spend anymore than about £500.
if anyone wants to throw in some suggestions it would be greatly appreciated

would you not want a false floor with amp tucked under the floor under a perspex screen and a sub sitting in the corner?? then it leaves you with room for stuff in your boot, or are you looking at something that will take up your whole boot??

2 of these subs will sound sweet as hell:

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/rain...er-p-4374.html

running off this amp (which is a bloody bargain tbh)

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=230263550300

this is less than the £500, and leaves you enough cash to buy wiring for it all too

well i was thinking a a false floor that the amp could sit in but then i thought if i have two 12" subs there won't be any space left in the boot anyway.
would rather have something that i could take out if need be but i thought 2 12"subs would look better for the install.

audio is not about looks

personally id go for two 10" subs (well i am)

as a 10" gives a tighter bass sound, yet still booms

so are you saying that two 10" subs would sound better?
i really don't know what is best!
if it would sound better to have 1 big one then i would do that or two small ones?

The thing is, 1 big sub (15") will need a very big box to work well, such as 4cuft, which is basically the whole of the boot!

You could get away with putting 2 x JBL GT4's in around 3cuft, which will sound awesome if powered from a well matched amp!

Cheap too!

it all depends what your after really.. you can get this

http://www.bassjunkies.com/?pid=3304...ource=category

which is 1000watts RMS and will rattle your whole car like hell

or you could get 2 of these:

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/dyna...d2-p-5617.html

both would produce around the same power off the amp in the ebay link i suggested.. but imo, the 2 smaller ones (which i am getting) sound better quality wise

obv that doesnt mean these are the only 2 options.. but just wanted to show, that it depends on weather you want high quality or high bass

i have no idea what a cuft is!
but i think your trying to say i'm best to get 2 smaller subs which i good.
so it's just a case of deciding which ones then getting the right size boxes!
i can't believe how complicated this all is

Wait till you come to building the box, which needs to take into account the "thiele small parameters", cubic feet, tuning frequency, designing the slot port taking into account the L shape factor, firing direction, shape of box, etc etc...

It all makes a difference to the sound! More than you might think!

It all depends on what type of music you listen to... and how much your willing to spend. Give us a budget and the type of music you listen to and it'll give us a better understanding to be able to help you.

Nah, you may aswell go sealed, which then means there is no real calcs to do. Just cut the wood to size and screw the lot together, however, when they are sealed, the subs MUST NOT share the same air space, so basically, you need to make to seperate boxes, unless you make one big box, with a seal in the middle effectively giving you 2 seperate boxes.

What music do you listen to, and do you like it loud and deep, or punchy and tight? (not a sexual inuendo)

IS that £500 just for a subwoofer, amp and wiring kit? Or will that include, headunit, components upfront and a amp to power the components upfront?

I've always gone with good quality components up front and a single 10 in the boot in the past, in a small car I think it's all you need.

I'm a bit out of loop on audio stuff these days though.
