my engine on a vtr 97 has packed up. i was wondering what engine i could put in now. will ant 1.6 8v pug engine go in? or will i need a 97/98 vtr engine??

is it black top or silver top, and vtr engines are a dime a dozen mate? unlesss your looking for more power such as vts/gti jus get another vtr lump

it would be easier to drop a vtr in but seen as its out you may aswel drop a vts or a gti lump in.

its a black top. but the rocker cover was changed previously. if i was to upgrade to vts or gti will need to change anything else such as ecu or the box?

Yes you have to change a fair few bits, but most of the stuff is readily availabe

will be much cheaper to put another vtr engine in. my vts conversion has cost around £600 now, i got the engine cheap and i may or may not still have to get the ecu unlocked

what will i need to look out for to give me signs whether the engine im buying is a good seed or a bad one. will be buying it from a scrappy.

Go to a reputable scrappy, some give a 30day run in garuntee so if it dont work yoyu get your money back, or look for one on forums they are usually ok

vtr of same model and year and just drop it in, engine will cost you £50-80 without loom ecu and box

I'm also thinking about converting to a VTR engine. I'm currently driving a 1.4 VTS from 2000(european model) If I'm going to convert it what would i need? could i keep the loom, ecu and box from the 1.4?
