Default Laptop no sound through headphone jack

Im hooking my pc up to my new 42" lcd connected tge vga lead and got the picture up but soon as i plug the audio lead inro the laptop it pops up with a sound box thing on the screen and no sound comes out, its windows 7 and i cant see any thing on the screen to see why its not working

click on audio icon and select audio output should be few options try a few if that fails does it work with normal headphones plugged into laptop? if through hdmi set audio outpuyt to hdmi. or use a a cable with the blue adapter and then use 3.5mm male to male audio jack from laptop to tv

Right click the speaker icon on the task tray (bottom right) playback devices > choose the one you need. Simples

have you checked the tv menu for sound selection ?

on mine i have a choice of hdmi3 or pc, needs pc to work if your feeding it via a jack rather than hdmi.
