Default vtr head gasket

what is the average milage that you would need to replace the head gasket?
because my mate has a 106 rally 1.6 8v with 40,000 on the clock and the oil smells of petrol.

erm i would strip it and check it..never a good sign..

headgaskets can last a lifetime.. or not depends on how its driven.. .. recently tho ive done 2 vts's (standard ones) at 80k.. just for piece of mind

Check for mayo arround the oil cap, on the dip stick, and if theres any oil or mayo in the water tank, if not and ur still worried get a compression test.
