What about the bmw an mercs they got the brittest bulbs as standard i got stopped by traffic police for my bulbs an his ones in the bmw were brighter, doesent make sense to me seems like its 1 rule for us an another for them i think it doesnt matter as long as people set them down to the floor, range rovers come with 100w bulbs standard an there glare is one of the worst on the roads these days?

You make it sound unfair when in reality the same rules apply to all. The regulations regarding lights just come down to safety standard. If the parts you use are approved and fitted according to regulations then you are fine. You could take the full lights setup off a Rangrover and as long as you fit them properly would be perfectly legal to fit to your Saxo. It would be quite a lot of work but if you took the time and money to do it properly you would be fine. Incidently the new Rangerovers use 35w bulbs not 100w.

Intresting read, I admit to having smoked rears, yet to be pulled for it in over a year. Still tempted to return to standards tho as points would be a pain!

smoked rear lights aint illegal. unless (so iv been told) you have smoked the reflectors. iv always had smoked lights on cars iv owned, smoked quite dark too, never failed an mot or been pulled for it. but then again iv always left the reflectors on show

If your talking about the HID bulb kits that fit in the stock Saxo headlight housing then yes even 6000k ones would be. The Saxo headlight is not approved for HID bulbs and so under construction and use would be illegal to fit them to a road car. Or it could also be considered failing to maintain your vehicle lights. Both would render your car no longer road legal.

Iv gone and bought a 4300K (The best temperature to go for if you want the brightest light) Xenon HID kit off ebay, no projector included (making it ilegle to fit as is for road use) however I found an American company that sells projectors that should fit a saxo without too much trouble, though Ill only find out for sure when they arrive. If it fits, it will be perfectly legle and safe and within the law. Problem solved... hopefully. It was about £70 for the projector and £50 for the actual kit, not cheap. But it (should be) the real deal. Allot of websites (including ebay) catch drivers out by selling the kits without mentioning the strings attatched.

As xenon hid bulbs are siginificantly brighter, reflector type headlights will dazzle drivers easily. And so is not leagle. If you have a good projector that focusses the light down onto the road when in low beam to stop dazzling other drivers then you wont have any reason to get stopped.

This is the projector in particular I have bought, Its bi-xenon meaning you get High and Low Beam in the single unit. And its the smallest projector I have yet found, In theory it should be an easy fit. http://www.theretrofitsource.com/pro...roducts_id=236

Xenons are the brightest and safest bulbs to use for night time driving there is no disputing that.

In order for you to fit them legally to your saxo, you would need some type of projector lens (E approved), some way of automatic self levelling (suspension or headlight) and washer jets. This is all to do with health and safety by dazzling other drivers.

Obviously this isnt easily done so the very least you should get are;

Xenon kit (4300k or 6000k)
Angel or Morette lights (with projector lens)
Headlight alignment (at any MOT garage)

When new MOT rules come into force, the only xenon lights to pass an MOT will be those factory fitted to the car. I have never been stopped or fined for using properly aligned xenon lights through angel headlights with projector lens.

After some Yellow bulbs off Lamin-x and it says 2500k. is that legit? for lighting distance etc.

Ive recently decided to add blue lights to the inside of my car and boot (matching head unit etc) therfore was wondering if blue repeaters are illegal to have, there small so maybe not but you know what the police are like these days.....
