Chapter One - Saxo's with Lexus Lights!

January 2004 i got my hands on a X reg Black VTR. This was the 2nd year of driving and damn did i enjoy that car! Previously i had been driving my moms MK4 Golf 1.6 and the difference between the 2 cars was amazing at the time.
This was my first ever attempt at modding, a great deal of advise came from the guys on the PerformanceGTi Forums, there a great bunch and i thank them all. From owning the Saxo i eventually found a little site know as Sax-P
Heres a pic of it towards the end of its ownership:

Mods included (as far as i remember):
Dimma grill
M3 DI mirrors
Lowered 35mm all round on Gmax Shocks and Springs
Polybushes all round
Beesting Arial
Dimma fuel cap
35% Black tints
Lexus lights (was the in thing!)
Ashley backbox
K&N airfilter
Debadged rear
Sony headunit and sony front speakers
private plate

Very simple mods but stood out enough at the time, had major plans for this one but all wasnt ment to be.
December 2004 i crashed the saxo, skidded and smashed into a brick wall writing off the car. I paid £4150 back then and sold it for £350 in the end as it had to go:

The end of a bad year that was, and I was less than a month from my 1st no claims bonus. Word of advise TPFT on a £4000 car doesnt feel good when its your fault.
13 months of saving money from the crash, 13 months i stopped posting on sax-p because i had no car....lead to something that ive always wanted while owning the saxo....

Chapter Two - Game Over?

I was now left with half a Saxo, a pissed off Mom,
upset Girlfriend oh and about £700 in my pocket..
Lucky I was saving for a rear axle for the Saxo before i crashed else I wouldnt
have had any cash at all.
2005 was hopefully going to be a breath of fresh air as 2004 was a really crap year;
3 points on my licence, failed my A2 Levels and not forgetting a car crash
for Christmas lol, how nice.

Dreams I had for my Saxo were definatly over, while I owed it I ultimatly planned to have a VTS conversion done, ha no chance of that now.
Around April 2005 the remains of the Saxo were finally taken off the drive, I was asking £600 for it but people didnt seem interested. Eventually some random rich guy (54 plate BMW X5!) from Stafford came round and took it for £350, I was just glad to see it go. Bye bye baby.

My next step now was to get insurance quotes on a VTS. And guess what... things didnt look good at all.
Cheapest quote I found in my name at the time was around £2700. Not good. At this point now I had saved up a fair amount of cash but no way could I afford that kind of insurance, I remember really feeling like sh*t and my self confidence shooting right down as I knew there was no chance of me getting that 1.6 16v.

My Girlfriend and the PerformanceGTi guys really helped me out when I was on this low, but 2 members were definatly the ones that inspired me the most.
SuperGTi (Matt) and also Widders (both members of the SSC) were owners of 106 GTi's. When I had my Saxo i really disliked 106s until I spoke to these guys. Both running Throttle Bodies with Matt's 106 pushing out a genuine 180bhp, what I wanted began to take different paths.
It was around June/July time (before i got my A2 Level results which i passed btw!) I decided I wanted what they have at any cost.

Widder's:

SuperGTi's:

But what colour?

I think I want a Yellow one, now i got to get some money...

Yea Widder's GTi is really nice, shame that its currently off the road (dont want to go into details as its not my car)
Looking back at my Saxo i think its a bit Im not too keen on the standard wheels, lexus lights and that nasty fuel cap. But then again at the time I loved it.
