Default Computer Help

Hi Guys

Had major problems with my friends computer which is only about 2-3 months old. Ended up having to delete all partitions and i managed to install a copy of windows back onto the computer but how do i go about re-installing factory copy of windows to get all the settings for the acer computer

Any help would be great.

You'll struggle with that as usually the recovery is on a partition and seeing as they are gone that idea is fucked, tbh though as long as you install the drivers back on I wouldn't worry about the other acer branded shit

You need the special Acer disc as they will supply their OEM O/S which is a slightly tweaked version of windows.

If you have deleted the partition then you wont be able to recover from any sort of recovery partition.

If the version of windows that you have put on is ligit and the drivers etc work fine then tbf you would have no advantage using an Acer OEM version.

Hope that helps.

The acer disc wil have all the drivers on it as that's what I believe your after. It will restore all graphic, sound,Internet etc as when formatting you lose it all.

If however you don't have the disc, then the acer website will let you download them for free mate.

The recovery disk is usually a waste of time, when I buy a new computer the first thing I do is download decrapifier

Out of interest what problems did you have previous to the re-install

Acers have a recovery partition

The disk supplied is used to boot to a utility which uses files from the recovery partition to "ghost" the drive..

alternativley, just find any OEM installation disk and then run the acer crack (easily findable) and it will activate the acer install..

Id rather do a vanilla install rather than an OEM installation but thats me.

I just get any OEM version and use my Acer Windows Key from the backside of my laptop, have the drivers from the Acer website on a memory stick. Just download the drivers you need. Then I run a Windows Update.

What windows os is it? If it's vista, bin it, if it's 7, do as above (MarkyG), if you decide to put xp on it (can do that with a vista licence) don't, for crying out loud, put sp3 on it!
