Vid Card issues
Hello, was wondering if anyone could shed any light on this...
I got my brother a new vid card it's a HIS HD6850, So I've put it in it's getting power as the fan is spinning the mobo is not using onboard graphics and the pic-e slot is definitely enabled (old 9600gt was in this slot). I tried disabling onboard graphics but it makes no difference.... The PC just doesn't see it or detect the hardware, in device manager it just shows the onboard gpu. Surely it can't be a driver issue as it should still see it in device manager? Faulty card? Any ideas?
Haven't got a spare PC to test but I've googled and a few people having same issues and it was confirmed as a faulty card?
Any ideas

if it's not detected then it's faulty I guess. Just make sure you rule out dirty contacts by getting the old card back in.

That's what I thought, put the old card back in and PC recognised it straight away. I've sourced a spare pc so I'm going to test it in that just to be sure as I don't want to pay the postage if they test it and find it working

another giveaway is that the fan should start. You didn't mention that so I'm not going to take guesses any further...

What a pain in the arse. Have nothing constructive to add other than I can feel the pain of the annoyance of such a bloody simple 5 minute task not working as intended.

I did mention the fan was spinning (that was the first thing I checked) it's just I was in a rush on my netbook and as a result my grammar is fucktarded.

Ebuyer have been pretty good with returns for me mate. My old HD4850 died a few years ago and I was refunded within a few days. Same thing when my computer chair broke, I had the refund within a week.

It's always a bastard when it happens. This is one of the reasons why I don't buy hardware on the net, when it fucks up you instantly fall back on hope. I guess the next step is to email or phone the company that sold it to you.

Did you plug the six pin connector into the card (if it requires it)? Have you got a decent power supply?

Yeah 6 pin connects fine, PSU is a 550 watt & card required 500 so can't see a problem + fan is spinning so don't think it's psu related.

Tried putting it in my other PC yesterday but it's too big and hits the PSU (it's a lanbox) passed it to my mate at work to try in his PC today lol.
