Is this any use?
Thinking of buying a new desktop PC since my old one is fucked, although i never really use it.. But want to keep my laptop purely for internet and the desktop for everything else
Had a look at this one on eBay - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Acer-Aspir...item2a1580774c
3.2 GHZ, 500MB HDD, 4GB RAM.. I have an Acer laptop and have no problems with it, this might be a daft question but that desktop does have built in wireless to pick up my router doesn't it?
If thats shite, any idea on one to get for under £400?
Cheers sweeties x

that doesnt have wireless built in, it's very average for the price and for £400 you could build something a lot better, but im guessing you wouldn't know where to start building your own!
just realised it also comes with a 22" monitor, if you can try and spend the £400 on just the tower and you could get something much more powerful.
it all depends and what you want to use the computer for..

Nah man £400 is my budget for everything! Gutted...why the hell doesn't it have built in wireless O_o thought that was the norm these days!!
Any suggestions for a PC with 21/22" monitor (big as possible)?
Just really want it for all my music and to hook up a decent sub & speakers for tunes...plus i've been playin around with Sony Vegas Pro 11 which my laptop struggles to use

for everything then, it's not a bad deal at all, im guessing the monitor in itself is worth £150.
had a little look around on ebay but couldn't see anything similar that included a monitor aswell.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AMD-BULLDO...item5d31133a69
you could buy something like that and use a different monitor, if you have a flat screen tv (lcd, plasma, led) then you can connect them up very easily using this cable.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DVI-HDMI-5...item33552a7157
viola a decent spec computer and a decent sized monitor!!
thats how i use my computer, currently typing this using my 32" tv
also have a smaller 19" connected but almost redundant now lol.
aldo, to get wireless, buy a wirelss adaptor, something like this will easy do the job.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Belkin-802-1.../dp/B0006374PK
hope i haven't confused you mate, sorry if i have !!!!

Cheers dude, Nah not confused haha i hear ya!!
I already have a wireless USB thing, a Belkin one...but tbh if i'm buying a new PC i want it to have built in wireless, i really don't see why that Acer doesn't have it built in, so gay!!
That desktop you showed, is it actually a good brand? Looks like it'd bite my arm off if i went near it...a bit hardcore for me i think and far too pricey for just the unit
I could connect it to my TV but i don't really want to, i'd rather just something like a 22" monitor to use with the option to connect to TV if i really wanted to
Was all set on that Acer one but you've burst my bubble telling me it hasn't got wifi ha

http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/347530...n/Product.html
that's what you want if you dont want a dongle hanging out, connects straight into the pci slot on the motherboard
the desktop i linked you too is not a brand as such, more a homebrew of many different brands.
the components are what matter in a computer, i bought my computer from ebay almost the same as the one i linked, apart from upgrading it here and there, 4 years later it's still going strong, dont feel forced in to buying a "brand" just check that the stuff inside it is of decent quality.

I had mine built by ccl online. The spec was way better than buying a pre built unit for the same price. Pretty sure you'd get a good deal from them within your budget

I'm on that CCL site cheers craigy...but...i don't have a fuckin clue what i'm doing! I'm on the "build a pc" bit but i don't know what all to select...Intel or AMD processor? AMD seems to have better options? Here's what i've got so far..
AMD Athlon II X3 450 3.2GHz Triple Core Processor
3.2GHz x3 / 512KB L2 Cache x3 / Socket AM3 / 95W / Retail Boxed - Fan Included
4GB Corsair Value Select 1333MHz DDR3 Memory (2x 2Gb Strips)
1333MHz / CAS 9 / 2GB (2 x 2GB Stick)
Motherboard i have no idea at all? I have just left the normal option of -
Gigabyte GA-M68M-S2P Motherboard
Phenom II Socket AM2 / GeForce 7025 Micro ATX / RAID Gigabit Ethernet
Do i need a graphics card?
Do i need a sound card? I'm guessing i will need a sound card since im intending to use it for music..
Optical drive i chose - Sony AD-7260S 24x /RAM Drive
SATA 2MB (Internal) (Black)
I picked the nice see through case
No operating system as i have a Windows 7 disk i used for my laptop and i just run RemoveWAT to remove the activation key
No card reader as i have an external
Free warranty 1 year
And for wireless the Edimax EW-7711In Wireless 802.11b/g/n 32-bit PCI Adaptor upto 150Mbps
And this monitor - http://www.cclonline.com/product/665...nitor/MON0544/
Have i picked shit stuff? It's also a bit over my budget of £400 all in
Either this or buy that Acer one on eBay and then buy that internal wireless thing that mlawlan posted ^

bought seperately those 4 components do not even add up to £150.
is the monitor included in the price?
a generic case and power supply will add about £60 on to the £150, not a bad little earner for this CCL company!!
BTW i have not been online all day lmao, just seem to pop on at just the right time !!!!!

if your happy to do that then it is definately the best route to take, hell building a computer is really easy the internet is your best mate, read a few guides and i bet you could have a bash yourself
missing from that list really is a power supply, there is one with the case, but it could be a little bit under powered.
and also a motherboard - http://www.cclonline.com/product/396...board/MBD1141/
something like this would be more than adequate.
i would look in to a different graphics card also, that one you have chosen would just be a bottle neck on the sytsem, i have one just like this
http://www.cclonline.com/product/454...-Card/VGA1517/
and cannot vouch for it enough.
ram is also very important, worth spending a little more on without a doubt
http://www.cclonline.com/product/655...emory/RAM0401/
2 of these, so 4GB will be plenty.
really making me want to build a new computer myself now :@
also here is a USB 3.0 controller
http://www.cclonline.com/product/265...-Card/CNT1048/

Ahh see it's all gettin expensive...do i really need that graphics card for £86?
£38 graphics card - http://www.cclonline.com/product/571...-Card/VGA0225/
Is the 4GB ram stick i chose not a good one? 2 of them would give me 8, i'd rather 8GB if possible?
Heres the same brand as you picked, but as a 4GB, buy 2 of these? - http://www.cclonline.com/product/655...emory/RAM0402/
What power supply would you suggest? And the wireless card? Sound card? And USB 3.0 ports? Any cooling needed?

Could save a little money on the CPU, You won't need all that power to listen to music etc. I got this amd CPU: http://www.ebuyer.com/198349-amd-phe...-hdz555wfgmbox
There's a deal £88 with this ram ; Corsair 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1600MHz/PC3-12800 XMS3 i5 Memory Kit CL9(9-9-9-24).
You unlock the 3rd and 4th core, So you get a 3.2ghz quad-core + fast ram for £88.

I'll be using programmes like Sony Vegas Pro 11, Adobe After Effects etc...the CPU was probably the main thing i wasn't scared of spending on as it's probably the most important bit..
For that 3.6GHZ quad core i linked, and the 8GB (2X4GB) memory...it costs just over £128...which is only £40 extra so for a faster processor and double the RAM i could justify the extra money
Things like graphics cards though i wont be gaming or watching any DVD's etc on it so do i need a decent graphics card?
I'll be getting a surround sound system for it, so i take it i'd need a decent sound card?

Well that cpu+ram plays bf3 on highest settings, so surely would run those programs, but as you say it's only £40.
Won't need a gpx card, get a decent sound card though

that cpu and ram plays bf3 maxed without a gfx card, not a chance.
i understand on the gfx card mate, you could easily buy one much cheaper, but remember, the computer will only perfom as fast as it's weakest component... much like a car.
http://www.cclonline.com/product/571...-Card/VGA0201/
this looks like an OK card for the price.

8gb is overkill with the ram, trust me you will be fine with 4 for now.
loose the power supply also, the case comes with a 450w one, i know i said underpowered, but the one you chose is not any better, should be ok with the free one.
thats knocked £50 off?
your doing really well considering your getting a 22" monitor in with all this !!
mouse/keyboard can be had for absolute peanuts, ask around, perhaps someone has one for free?
