It's an odd one that.... The Post Office was privatised some years ago, so in theory the car park is also private. However, if this is the case the police wouldn't have got involved.
Unless you're causing some kind of public disturbance or other "crime".
Are there any signs saying that it's a private car park, or any road signs nearby that give us an idea of whether it's public, public highway or private?

Photos uploaded,
These are only signs up.
They've got CCTV as well if that makes a difference lol.
I usually park further in and to the left, there's like 3 extra spaces that they never use.. harsh old biddies!

Looks as though you could be done for trespass to be fair. Doesn't look like a car park, as such or somewhere for guests and visitors to park. I'd tread carefully, personally, or find somewhere else!

Ah I'll behave and find somewhere else to park for a bit.
There's a Luminar night club (Lava Ignite) just up the road with a private car park, just a bit further to walk. I used to park there until they put up some big scary £100 fine signs.

Just to add, you can't be done for trespass as its a civil offence and not criminal. Where I work residents can't have guests full stop. The first time someone had loads of people in I had to ring the police. I rang they turned up, they asked the resident to have her guests leave, she said no and the police said there's nothing they can do as its civil.

Indeed. whats the craic now. This seems like a grey area now. It seems like some companies won't care too much, but say you do find the one arsehole company... then what?

I'm currently suffering from man flu won't go I to it too much.
As of August last year, legislation has put the responsibility on the vehicles registered keepers. It was previously the responsibility of the driver. If you receive a fine and CANNOT provide the details of the driver on the specified time/date/location then the responsibility for the payment is with you.
I read loads of posts like the original post in this thread. Came to Run To The Sun this year and overstayed in a car park run by Parking Eye. Thought "fuck it, they can't do anything about it" and came home. I received a letter and ignored it, three times actually. Received a final warning letter and ignored it. And then received a court summons. Spoke to a solicitor and that's when we were informed of the new legislation.
Ended up folking out £160 for my troubles.

I can't find any info on this new legislation.
Ultimately, the parties acting on behalf of land owners were relying on contract law in order to prosecute. Thus far no precedent has been set in the high court whereby any motorist has been prosecuted for overstaying on a private car park.
You also need to consider extortion as part of the "invoicing" process and any losses the land owner may have incurred. Usually these do not total the fines/invoices.

My girlfriend has just got done by 'parking eye' reading Golfjay's post has made me uneasy on telling her just to ignore it, if it was me I would but I don't want to suggest she does that if they will summon you to court.
I've had numerous parking fines and ignored them all with no issue, but parking eye were never the issuer of the fine, most of mine have been by VCS.
Any updates on legislation? Tell her to ignore it or just pay the £50?

Send them an invoice for 120+ quid and a polite, informal notice that you will charge more in the future. Add that you accept payments made by cheques or direct transfers only.
