thanks for all the banter guys!!

she is a healthy approx 5/6 months old. the greeks do not feed the strays and they are bad towards them, kicking them away, etc. even the young kids do it!!!

at the minute, dogs do need to be in quaranteen for 6 months, but as of 1st Jan 2012 all they need is vaccinating, microchip and blood tests. then they can be exported.
the £1300 is 5E per day for boarding until end of Feb when the next shipment is, 400E for shipping and the vets is about 200E and an extra 120E if i want her neutering over there. the vets fees are a fraction of what it would cost over here.

its not an overnight decision to make, whicvh is why we are still contemplating it.

we lost our 14yo 2.5yrs ago and this is the first dog that we have met that felt right, a part of the family.
she is brilliant with people and kids of all ages (as we have seen her mingle with them) and she slept on our bed, so if she was going to maul us in our sleep, im sure she would have done it by now!!! hehe

the worst thing is, we have the money to spend on her, but should we?
before ive been against paying for predigree dogs and would rather go to a rescue home, which is what i am doing, but from 2k miles away!!!
right dog, wrong country :-(

the rep from our hotel also works for the local animal shelter and he runs weekly carboots and the table money goes towards feeding stations for the strays in the resort. there is no chance of locals feeding them.
at the airport he saw how upset vickie was and we swapped emails and he said he will look out for her, make sure shes ok.
so hopefully we will be able to track her down.

feel like going there for xmas in the car and driving her back (the roads out there = amazing)

to the lad who said to buy mods for the cars instead...i have 3 decent cars in the drive thanks ;-)

Instead of importing the dog to live with you in your UK residence, why not buy a house in Greece and move there so you can be with the dog

i understand with what you are saying. and its great that you are wanting to help... but seriously, in other countrys the "stray" dogs are fucked from day one.

you dont know what its been through, and what could set it off, or it could run away as i doubt it would be comfortable sitting in a house for majority of the day.

would be great to see another thread in a few months with the dog at home with you, dont get me wrong. but there would always be doubt in my mind, not knowing it from a young age, you could wake up one morning to find it eating your face.

same can be said for getting one from a rescue centre.
our last one was soft as grease and we got him from local rescue when he was 18mths/2yrs old.

we have been to them Lee with no joy, or the one we want has already been reserved.
we have also been to peoples houses when they have been getting rid.

our problem is, we dont want to line someones pocket, which is why we want to go through a charity.

i do worry about "capturing" her, as she is part of a pack with all that freedom. we most likely would need another to keep her happy and again, wouldnt be able to trust her on the lead. but with her being so young, they can adapt.

weve weighed up the pros/cons and to be honest the cons outweigh the pros. but i dont like the thought of her getting run over / shot over the winter period.

an elderly lady next door to vick's mum got one from romania and has adapted very well.

Personally I'd do it.

Thought it might have been yourself you were reffering to, but then read that it is now old, you're still a young pup
