New joiners able to view For Sale section
Just a thought to at least let new joiners view or use it.
A lad I know was after a Saxo and I told him that there were a few good ones for sale on here so he joined but needed 100 posts iirc.
New joiners need 100 posts to do certain things but people moan about spamming.
But how do they get 100 posts?
Someone new might not be knowledgeable enough to post in other sections.
In his case he gave up and a potential sale lost for someone on here.

Tony please go through this section theres several threads on this.
It was done to protect members from scammers. You will find a few other forums also adopt this policy.
Even if someone can view the for sale/wanted sections without 100 posts it makes the forum very easy for scammers to use.
The new system has dramatically cut down on this.

I was a bit lazy and only scanned the first page
This is the only forum I have been on with this policy. All every other site has made me do is register.
I dont see how it is much different to someone using AutoTrader, eGay etc by being able to view adverts?
Unless it is a case of it not being SaxP's fault if something goes wrong?

I couldn't find any other threads on this.
I searched 'For Sale' in this section. The word 'For' was removed.

Sadly people expect staff to wipe their arses for them, so they ignored advice given by us and then we had to mop up the pieces...
Im on several forums where different forms of registry/allowances are restricted, including photography/cars.
What happened was people were using the PM system to see wanted ads, pming them saying they had goods and taking the money and running. This is why we had to put a block on it, the same way as if you just register and go i have xyz for sale take the money and run.
A scammer wont usually be bothered with 1month membership etc...

Other peoples lack of intelligence irks me. They always spoil it for others.
Sounds like a full time job moderating on here.

I've always wondered, is it not possible to set it up so that they can view only the cars for sale section? Or is it not do-able that way?

Was just thinking the same, but the scammers could use that too. Tho tbh you're gonna have to be a dunce to get scammed alot of the time selling.

No access is the safest option. If you can view, you can be scammed via PM, etc... not necessarily in the thread you might think, but these forums can be used to target 'victims'.
Only this week somebody has announced they have been scammed out of £200 by not following forum guidelines and entering into deals via PM.
If you cant protect yourselves, 'we' will attempt to protect you as best we can, hence the forsale/wanted forum restrictions that are in place. ANy trading you do enter into is entirely at YOUR OWN risk.

It been seen so many times where people are scammed.
i joined an evo forum and i was let on to the for sale right away....i then join a mercedes morum and the same rule applies there as it does here.
it encouraged me to join the community, see how the site works and get involved.
i only wanted to sell my car. but i was happy to wait.
some people see the need to scam and steal which lets down alot of people, the honest ones only looking to sell or buy something quick.
