Default Phase 1 or phase 2

Hi guys I know I'm in the wrong forum but any help would be appreciated, I have a vtr with a 106 gti conversion, how can you tell the difference between a phase 1 or phase 2? The owner who sold it to me said its aphasia 2 but I was told it may be a phase 1

Cheers guys

Headlights are your biggest giveaway
Tear drop shape for mk2
More square shaped for mk1
If the front Citroen badge lifts with the bonnet, I'd say it was mark 2!

ofcourse just looking at it doesn't mean anything to confuse you a little more.
early mk2s had the mk1 engine and loom

I know the difference between a mk 1 and mk 2. I have amk 2 vtr and the engine is a 106 gti but not sure how to tell if the engine is phase 1 or phase 2, sorry of I confused you.
It's just I'm looking at 4-1 manifolds and don't know if engine is phase 1 or 2

if your wanting to find out if your gti engine is earlier or later type look at the ecu. if its 1 plug its early, 3 plug later. later engines had an egr valve on the exhaust manifold and 2 lambda sensors

The EGR valve on the front of the engine is usually an indication.

Where is the lambda you can see?

The second one is usually behind the manifold and it's hard to see without sticking a torch behind it.

Has it been decatted or is the cat there?

Has it got the EGR valve as in this pic?

The EGR valve is the round black plasic part in front of the cam covers...looks like it's attached to the manifold heat shield

It's standard manifold decat and saxsport system and it hasn't got egr valve so its a phase 2 then?

Phase one by the sound of it.

EGR valve is phase 2 iirc
Single lambda is phase 1 iirc

Its 2001+ that gained the EGR valve & 3 plug ecu & 2 lambda on the Vts ( and seat airbags) Euro III emissions.

I don't think it necessarily means it's a phase 2 car....

because the initial phase 2 cars used the older engines? presumable the x/y reg ones that came in before 2001 that were still phase 2? :s

If i've read the above correctly...
