Chassis strengthening kit

Has anyone fitted the below chassis kit from Satchell?

I think that's the one that was designed by one of the lads off rallye register... Can't remember who, either shenparbitch or dieseldave maybe? Look good and as its satchel gear it will be well built stuff. Don't really see much of a gain on a track car but if your rallying then servo worth it after seeing a few rallyes have the rear wishbone mounts tear holes in floors.

Shenpar works at Satchell dont he?

I was more interested in the fitting process, I assume they lay over the mounting hole, are bolted down then welded up. In a plated fashion over the original bolting holes for the arms, if you get me?

Hiya.......

I didnt design them... but due to VERY short lead times i helped the satchell boys out by laser cutter the prototype kit at my work..

Well... i actually had 2 sets cut and fitted the other to my car..



Its a good idea imo, i'm running the full satchell suspension too so with everything being solid mounted took the opportunity to beef up the wishbone pickup...

sexygt --to get best result --extend roll cage feet and weld to that area to transfer the load to cage ?

That would be quite abit of extension work to the foot plates. Overkill on a purely track car?

The plates need a degree of forming to sit flush with the footwells as they are curved

stiffer the chassis ==the better the suspension works
track car is where you are wanting the best is it not ?
ideally the roll cage should bolt direct to suspension mountings where possible to transfer load to something that will not flex
hence if allowed you have the cage coming down on to strut heads + why you seam weld shells +add bits
std car is meant to fold up when in a bump and crush in a controlled way
race car you want chassis solid --so if you have an excursion to the barriers or a wee roll --its only wings and things you have to replace --and main shell stays straight
same reason F1 cars want wishbones to come off before it damages the main "tub"+ suspension pick up points--just bolt new bits on

not really convinced that this kit will do that much + we are talking about small amounts here --as those mounting points for wishbone are where all the layers of chassis ,4 layers i think come together --but unless you spread the load further than it is as std you are still going to have it flexing in the floor pan .
I drilled through all the layers on my car and mig plugged all layers together+seam welded underneath
tacking these plates on top assumes the spot welds are good below
jack car up at front corner --then open door --bet it won,t shut easily if no cage fitted

this not an critisim of the kit supplied ,.i,m not having a go at them --but if you looking for a measurable increase in chassis stiffness --then that on its own won,t do much

I thought these plates were aimed at rally/ gravel cars to give additional strength to the wishbone pickup points (same idea as the strut reinforcement plates)? I fitted them in my track car in the hope that they may have given a tiny bit more strength, I doubt they did anything TBH

there's more to these kits than pictured and yes they do a lot, we had the piece of floor where the rear wishbone bolts on rip out totally before these were fitted.

its not really about stiffening the whole chassis but preventing a localised failure
