You wat weight distribution buy an MR2 or something. 10kg in the back will do bugger all except maybe give you slightly less traction on the front.
Sure someone will pop up and disagree but unless you have the car setup and corner weighted will make f all difference

bit like B8 then? and clio defuser?

B8's DO something and the clio's diffuser DOES something.
So that post was pretty pointless really wasn't it
Does having a battery at the back of the car give you an extra 40kg of downforce?

You ARE joking aren't you? Saxos are so light on the back end that any weight you can get over it is a bonus. Battery, washer bottle etc, all add up, and they sort out the distribution without adding extra weight to the overall weight of the car.
Weight distribution is a pretty important thing, anything you can do to even it out is a win.

I've been over the clio diffuser thing before. For all we know the flow may not even remain laminar when in yaw. So not doing anything when in a turn

^ Is that meant to be a rear strut brace or part of the cage or both?

dont have thanks, so ill say it here
saxos are basicall a plumb line..tipped on its back, VERY nose heavy
when stripping the rear you make it even worse, moving some of that weight to rear helps balance it back out
but your still saving some weight, the battery probs weighs same as rear seats and cards and belts and C pillars etc!

i think its more of brace, im putting one in mine to stiffen the back of the body up a tad
not as chunky as that one like
pretty sure it was already done aswell... remember that car for sale

as above. between the cage points would be beneficial, but on the paper thin often rusty arch sides wont transfer much

if wonting to strenthen rear up like tht... welding a tube to 2 tin foil arches wont help...
best would be. bend pice sheet (least 3mm) hole saw it weld tube on it down with a pice over end and hole though so dropes down to beam then weld the L shaped bit on, then a bar acress between
if tht makes sence?

makes perfect sense,
ill be plating each end of mine(4mm), its going alot higher aswell, plan is actually strenghten the rear of the shell and reduce the rear body roll, as theres not much in the rear strength wise tbh
will be putting cross from the cage bottom as suggested above

remember that a bar between the beam points wont strengthen anything but the beam itself. the beam is already a big cross tube, so the beam really needs cross links to other components of the monocoque. This requires a cage

As you say, many other have tanks in the boot (inside the passenger compartment) but that doesn't make it ok, correct or safe... its dangerous and potentially lethal to the occupants of the car... have a good think about why you think you need to have the tank inside the car with you... you could at least fit a bulkhead around it to seperate the tank from the passenger compartment?
the words door, shut, horse and bolted spring to mind... It'll probably take someone getting burnt to death before things change, dont let it be you or any of your friends...
|
Thats fair enough, appreciate your feed back. If i am brutally honest with you, it was a spare of the moment thing and seems alot easier at the time.
I was taking the rear beam off and pierced the plastic tank, so instead of replacing it, i built that and it works. Can totally see you point of view on a safety point of view. It is something that i will look into improving
Battery is now a bit smaller, and has its own box

as said tbh if you move things about you do notice
I moved my battery and fitted a fibreglass bonnet
20kg off the front axle and i noted the rear was a lot more planetd im comparison due to the front havig less weight
Ive sinced move washer bottle gone lighter fan lighter engine (like flywheel and forgies ect) ali rad and cut a few things with full interior in it was almost even in feel compared to a standard 106/saxo a lot less lift off more predictable understeer and could play and balance it when having a chavvy moment
Basically the little things DO make a difference
plus in a front end shunt you wont end up leaking battery acid everywere if its in a central point or behind something solid youll be hard pushed to actually damage it in an off which helps when trying to salvage stuff after (trust me been there done that)
If it was pointless then why do most racecars run there dry cell ones in car
Yes our cars arent all race cars but it does do something no matter if a normal driver doesnt notice the difference when adding all those little things up ive probably moved allmost 20kg to the rear of my car (or at least past the bulkhead) aswell as removing a further 15 or so from the front so suddenly my front to rear balance is around 30kg better than a standard cars and that is noticable
its still not perfect it never will be but its better and with a cage adding more weight to the back soon itll be better still

Fair enough i always assumed the reason FWD cars below a certain weight were better than their RWD equivalents because of the fact they were hevay at the front and light at the rear.
Not saying RWD is worse just for a given weight/power FWD is better

I may not be the best driver in the world but nearly there lol
Nearly ripped a tyre of the 106 trying to make it corner like the saxo did

Yes it was - i haven't changed any of it due to work commitments so in storage - these pics havent changed any.
I have to move it next week so i'll take a look - The lad who built it did a great job with doing other things like repositioning the lower arms to reduce bump steer - so he may have already plated it.
