Default anyone know alot about macs ??? need help

Basically i want to take my very old mac to work and i want to get the best performance out of this old powerbook g4 a1010 at the moment i have increased the ram size to its max ie 1.25 basically 1gb stick and the rest in internal (built in).

It seems to run a bit faster now but it still has all my old coursework from the school days which i cant be arsed to go throughand i guess is slowing down the mac so i have put all the data onto a memory stick and now want to re install the best software i can for this model i have heard i can put leopard osx on to this my questions are the following

whats the fastest software to use on this mac??
what else can i do to improve performance??
is it better to install tiger ?? if so what version
pros and cons of tiger ??
pros and cons of leopard ?
all the disks ive seen on ebay are all different version numbers is it possible to go for any and just update through software updater and any other advise links ect thanks in advance

also im not never good this computer lingo so please use caveman talk

There isn't, the latest uses slightly less resources. No point, it will only be as fast as your hardware.

you already bought the ram, beyond that it's a laptop so you would have to buy an external sound and video card.

no point, see above. At best you could run OSX 10.4 on it, forget about all the lions and leopards etc.. The processor inside is the equivalent of a pentium 2 (1.2 Ghz) assuming you had the higher spec in the first place. Otherwise you're looking at a whopping 867 Mhz processor speed, dogshit slow no matter what you do.

With 1gb+ of ram you should be able to run most of the OSX operating systems. However most users prefer Tiger to Lepoard, and my personal recommendation would be Tiger!

he'll run 10.4 tops (no more support beyond that iirc) and be lucky if he can use the latest MS office on it. 1 gb is enough for small tasks, the problem being how much cpu he's got as in more or less slow. Tiger it is.
