TIME ATTACK 2016 ROUND 6 SNETTERTON

Here we are at the final round of the 2016 season...

Snetterton my bogie circuit (think about 2014).

After securing a DNF at Croft, I really had to secure some good points at Snett. 11 points was what was required if my closest competitor was to score maximum 15pts....

4am start to the day, arriving at the circuit quite early for once lol.

I was blessed with support from Kev, Jon and Graeme from Kamracing.co.uk also my new work colleague Matt.

SESSION 1 WARM UP

With the circuit being damp, there was no need for a fast lap, I simply wanted to see how the rebuilt engine felt... and it felt pretty flat above 5,000rpm... supercharger belt was slipping (only offering 1bar boost) but I stayed out for a few laps, only laying off full throttle as not wanting to damage the belt...

SESSION 2 PRACTICE

With the charger belt tensioned again (was a new belt that required running in) I headed back out to a dry but cold Snetterton 200...

Full boost but I feel very wobbly in the car, not feeling confident but find a lap time of 1:27.5, some 7tenths quicker than I was in 2015.

This placed me 4th, had this been qualifying or final then the championship would be over!

As I entered the pits I could hear a strange noise...

Vickie and Matt took a look for me and it was the lower coolant hose... it had moved and been caught by the crank pulley bolts.

SESSION 3 QULIFYING

After repairing the coolant hose (RooseMotorsport) it was time for Qually...

Vickie told me to just enjoy myself, so I did...

A few laps In and I'm feeling like I can push on... the car feels really good.

on lap 4 I find a big improvement out of no where! 1:25.593

Lap 6 an improvement again with 1:25.535 then even better with a 1:25.397 but its only good enough for 2nd. Rob Oldman had done a 1:24.606

SESSION 4 THE FINAL

My team gave me so much morale support with a few motivational words as I belt up for the final time in 2016...

On track again for the final time I am very focussed.

lapt times as follows...

out lap
1:59.006
1:46.361
1:30.516
1:25.700
then an improvement from qually with a 1:24.914

RED FLAG, large oil spill into the hairpin.

pit in..

Vickie come over to inform me of my position 2nd, with 10 minutes on the clock when it restarts...

Green flag, session re starts

4 more laps but I cant improve due to traffic before another RED FLAG.

With 6 minutes left on the clock I am still second place, behind Oldman.

I have a few more fast laps once the session starts again only to be spoilt by novice traffic not moving and sitting on the apex of a corner.

once again I find a huge improvement with a 1:24.141

I felt that Oldman couldn't of beaten that, I'm currently 4 seconds quicker than 2015!

But I'm 2nd...

Oldman 1:24.094
Summers :24.141
Kime 1:26.093

13 points in the bag.

bit of comedy here as my bottle prematurely pops...

A bit of fun with the guys from Kamracing.co.uk

So that's the 2016 season come to an end. Its been a tough year with lots of things going on behind the scenes keeping me busy. I am really ready for a bit of time away from the car but I have a plan of action to take over winter...

I have loved driving the car this year. its been such a delight.

looking back at the season there have been some real achievements.

Cadwell, lap record 1:39.486 and also fastest FWD in time attack!

Pembrey, lap record.

Brands, beat the stig

Oulton, beat the stig again

Croft, DNF but fastest lap time in PR class of the day

Snetterton, championship title defended

I have already had offers from Millers Oil and ITG Air filters to support me in 2017...

I wish to thank the following sponsors and friends for helping me get this far with the car....

Alive Tuning,
Allisport,
Kamracing,
Puntospares,
Baker BM,
Leda,
Millers Oil,
ITG,
Premium Wraps,
Premier Paintworx
Maxi Motorsport,
VD Motorsport,
Roose Motorsport,
Kingsway Tyres,
HiSpec Brakes.

Simon Clark, Pete Upton, Alan and all the gang from Rednek Motorsportz, Alex Divers and Matt Franks but more than anyone my better half Vickie

Awesome write up as usual mate. So glad you managed to get things sorted in time and then managed to pull the win back from the brink. I'll give you a shout in a few weeks after we have got our stuff out of the way and I'll see what we can offer you as well if you like.

If i took a guess

Crank bolt came loose of its own accord (was not threadlocked) causing the woodruff key to become slightly mobile under load.

As you know they key isnt a load baring item. So would say was fine until loose.

hope this winter you are doing as I suggested 2 years ago ,after it did it on mine -
remove crank and get full length slot milled and then full length square key steel fitted

Even a full length square will snap if the crank bolt comes loose surely?

2016 was a good year

But what have I been doing since September last year?

spending lots of time with loved ones

Tuning at Alive

Fixing Land Rovers

...

After the season ended the first thing I did was contact all my lovely sponsors and thank them for their contributions throughout the year. Almost all sponsors hit me back with offers to continue their support for the following year. Due to change of circumstances I had thought about taking sometime away from the car but to turn away such great sponsorship opportunities would be a waste especially after building up some really good relationships with them.

I really do enjoy Time Attack and I will compete for a 4th year but this time Club 2wd (fwd vs rwd). The competition in Club is tough with many more entries in the class making things much more exciting.

I keep regular contact with my sponsors. After a good chat with Kev from Kamracing we decided that a little extra power would be most welcome for the change of class.

Kamracing and Catcams have come together and provided me with a fantastic selection of performance products...

The Catcams products will be fitted into a ported and polished head to help me get a little closer to my 300bhp target. The car is currently 245bhp (incl 100cel cat).

Millers oils continue to offer their support as our official fluids sponsor.

Puntospares.com are staying with us again contributing towards running costs of the car.

ITG Airfilters have offered a new performance airfilter.

Leda Suspension have taken care of the suspension once again. Upon a service they found a bent front rod! Leda kindly replaced and serviced the suspension at no cost and have offered new springs should I choose to uprate the spring weight. A small change to the dampers valving has also been made.

Roosemotorsport are happy to stay with us for the 3rd year also. they will be replacing the radiator hose I damaged at Snetterton and will be on stand by for any other hoses required.

As usual, working at Alive Tuning I get the use of the dyno, this is most convenient. I will be doing the rebuild and tune myself.

Hi-Spec Motorsport will continue to offer their support for the 3rd year also... new discs and my new favourite pads.

I still have a pair of fibreglass doors to be fitted also so a little less weight is good (I am starting to get a middle aged belly lol).

Premium Wraps and Tints are also on board in case I need any additional vinyl work.

as soon as I have some figures from the tune with the Catcams products I will post the results.
