We've started work on the black Sax. The first job was to respray the front red splitter:

We also picked up a smooth and flush bonnet in Old English White from jodie_saxo's old Saxo:

And we started to remove the interior. We had previously rounded all the bolts so used an angle grinder to cut the brackets out.

Yeah. We had an issue with water getting in through the windscreen.

New parts

We had an issue with the car letting in water, so we started stripping the interior and sealed the windscreen.

New steering wheel

Wiring.

In true early 2000s form we went for a PS2 (which will be fitted in the govebox).

We also picked up some 309 GTi Goodwoods.

With the help of an old friend, Wiki, one Friday evening we decided to tackle the torsion bars, starting with the blaxo.

Artistic

Nathan nipped round to drop of some Curlys

Anti-roll bar out

We continued to lower the car, and got the first side done, and started on the second:

We managed to drop the car off the stands

First side back down

The second side was more difficult, so we bought a sledge hammer

Both sides done

It's been a while since our last update. We've been working on the cars almost every day with little time to update the website.

We refitted the strut we'd removed.

Grant came over, and accidentally leant on the car...

The moved strut ended up pulling the driveshaft out

Nathan started working on the black Saxo, to lower the front using spring clamps.

First of many haha. We were just about to put the wheel back on and drop the car down so the axle stands etc. had been removed. The only thing left holding the corner up was the trolley jack.

We're still behind with updates, but, since a few people have been asking, after two years the Gavin and Stacey Saxo is now back on the road.

Great to hear! Checked it a little while ago so glad to see it's still alive and kicking!

Random question - is it necessary to take the anti-roll bars out, or can the torsion bars be removed either way?

From my understanding, you don’t have to take the anti-roll bar out. We almost lowered the Icelandic without doing so. But it’s better to remove it if you can, as then when you put it back in you’re setting the ARB at the new, lowered height. If you’re lowering the car using only the torsion bars / via the spline method, you’re pushing against the ARB as it is still set at the standard height.

But this is only what I’ve read on forums and how it's done in the Saxo Max Power Haynes manual, there are loads of people on here that are more knowledgeable than me on this.

The wedding went well, the cars went down a treat and fulfilled their jobs of ferrying us groomsmen to the venue and playing our audio over the weekend.
Thanks for following PWS, we are weeks behind on the updates, so there will be plenty more still to post.

As Nath89 said, we've been behind with updates. So the next few will be really quick, starting with finishing the the drivers side strut and new driveshaft on the Icelandic.

We moved the car to check everything was working, the steering boss had been removed to be painted so we first steered using some mole grips.

When we realised that wasn't going to work we refitted the original steering wheel

Then we stopped for some raw chicken

By evening the drivers side front strut was complete

At the same time we finished the wiring in the Icelandic. With all the additional things we'd fitted we needed a way to monitor the battery voltage. So we made a potential divider from some Vishay power resistors

And linked them to a gauge mounted in the boot.
