Default Towing eye

Folks,

I have seen various different claims about what the thread size is for the towing eye. Car is a 2000 VTS. I bought one off ebay as it didn't come with the car, but it won't go in. Now it might just be rust in the captive nut, but it would help to know what it actually is so I can run a tap down it.

Some say it is the same as a wheel bolt but that is finer than the thread on the one I have bought and doesn't go in either. I know it is M12 but that is about it. Others say the wheel bolt doesn't fit.

The towing eye I bought was listed as "CITROEN C2 C3 C5 C8 JUMPY SAXO FIAT SCUDO PEUGEOT Tow Hook". I am not sure what thread it has but it looks like a fairly coarse M12 thread, maybe 1.5 pitch? Wheel bolts are I believe M12x1.25

Thanks
Craig

if you have a new towing eye you can measure the threads on that.

That's the thing, the towing eye won't go in. It appears to be M12 x 1.5. I have seen 1.5 and also 1.25 (same as a wheel bolt) stated in different places, so I don't know which it should be. In any case either size will not go in so I am assuming the threads are blocked. I wanted to know the size in order the use the correct tap / thread chaser to try to clean the threads.

All good. Made a thread chaser out of a bolt and eventually got it in. Towing eye now fits. It's M12 x 1.5
