Default Decent Laptop

Am looking for a laptop, 2.0ghz Core2Duo. Preferably without an operating system on as I have a spare copy of Vista Ultimate here.

Any ideas where I can find one, looked on the interwebz for hours, and can only find one at ebuyer, which looks ghastly!

Any ideas?

Going to be harder to find one without an OS IMO. Dell is always a good place to look, they may do it without an OS if you order over the phone. Also think you use to be able to do it on the website too but not too sure!

pcspecialist.co.uk

Let's you build you own spec, and you can order without OS if you want to. Usually works out a fair bit cheaper than a Dell etc one of similar spec too.

or

Casing isnt overly nice, but i quite like itand it seems quite powerful.

What do you guys think?

Well Im not sure what other differences there are but the first one seems to be cheaper and better specced. More than enough for any application but you pay for what you get and these days £500+ buys a lot of laptop.

Never been a fan of "build your own" laptops because you only get to spec a few of the components, ie, the fan isnt changed when you change the processor, etc, etc. Not like a PC where you pick each and every bit!

Very true BPM.

Had a few words with a friend tonight, and he says subject to stock he can get me an Acer Aspire 6930G T5800* Laptop for £350, RRP of £599+

*-Turned out to be a T6400

Good price but NEVER buy an acer!!!! Laptops are so different to PCs you really do need to buy a brand name when you buy a laptop. HP/Compaq are really good, dells, IBM, etc.

Trust me its just not worth the hassle of getting a crappy acer whatever the price.

It's all cool. Ive sorted it. The acer runs lovely. Very fast for a laptop if I'm honest.

Never had any problems with Acer's in the past. I didnt buy this because of the price. I've used one before and everything, in my opinion, is slightly smoother than others I have tested out.

I know they will never be on par with a PC. This QC 3.0GHz CPU I've got in here is still pretty damn nippy in both loading and processing. And my yet to cease to amaze me GTX280 XXX 1GB Edition card =)
