Alternator squeak and groan.
Swapped my alternatorbelt a while back and the cars been squeeking at lower speeds, plus making a rumbling squeak when i go of the throttle. The sound gets worse when I take a corner. Ive tryed two different belts, they both do the same thing.
I’ve tried varying the tension, still squeaks and groans.
I’m hoping it’s not the alternator. What du you guys think?

Cut off one metre of hose pipe, point it at the alternator and the bottom pulley when it's squeaking. This will tell you where the squeak is from

That’s a cool trick I’ll remember that, problem is it doesn’t squeak in idle ☹️

Sure you have the correct belt fitted?

I got them from a big reputable company here in Denmark, they haven’t let me down before. Problem is when I search for spares myself, I come up with multiple hits, leaving me none the wiser

But if any of you have a link to the correct belt, that you KNOW works I’d be happy to hear about it

I've just replaced my timing belt, tensioner, water pump and alternator belt today. My alternator belt is just a standard serpentine belt with the V grooves along the length like VVVVVV. The guy at the part store tried to give me a belt with teeth, like the timing belt initially. Have you got any oil or grease etc on the pulley? Maybe that causes the belt to slip?

No oil, the pulleys are clean and dry, and there seems to be no detectable play anywhere. It puzzles me that the squeak/groan only appears when in gear and under power, and while cornering.

Take the belt off then go for a quick drive to recreate the squealing situations. You never know, it could have just started at the time you did the belt. If it still squeals you can rule out the belt and alternator, if it stops, you know it is. I know I've chased a problem in the wrong place in the past just because I had done something which could have caused it as it started.
