Seriously...; Pauls idea about mixing the bars with rep is probably the best piece of thinking i have seen on SAX-P since i joined.
Wonder if Simo has noticed this idea??

Yeah but its not a modification you can get and install.

Google "VBulletin Modifications" for the real options.

I can't be arsed to read through all the pages, read through the first four though which I felt is enough.

I think it's best it went personally, I did probably abuse it the odd time and I ain't denying that (Probably when a newbie came in and everyone bad repped, I joined in) but I didn't abuse it constantly. I think the forum is better without it anyway, I thought it was before too.

The tags was a waste of time really as everyone just abused it something stupid.

awesome idea to get rid, i cant see how it benefitted anyone?

you got loads of rep so you must be in with the banter/ abuse etc

you got loads of bad rep so you must of asked about rep/ avatars or the for sale section

it never helped recognising who to trust etc at all.

remember abuse of the rep system isnt just bad repping, its good repping for the sake of it cause you know them

its pish without the rep system in place.

bring it back so names have to be left.

im holding my hand up and admitting i have abused the system but i dont make it a regular occurance. the rerason newbies get such bad rep at the start is they cant be arsed reading the forum rules. why dont you put something in place so you have to read the rules before getting onto the forums etc.

simo use that function instead trust me on this .

im on several trance producer sites and they use that function, and works perfectly .

basicly someone puts up a thread that is helpful. you click Thanks (then under the thread a list of peoples names come up to say who has thanked so so for posting up the thread. then on the Left<<<<<<<< there is a say.. simo has been thanked 10x1 in this thread by users!

its a good system and still shows who are helpful as there been thanked for there input to the community!

I have always said the rep system was a bit of a waste, its green blobs on a screen big whoopy doo..as I have said before if users are so consumed by the fact they must earn more rep then I pitty your real social lifes as it proves one thing and only one, you find it more important to be respected on a site which is in the virtual world, but not in real life. you dont earn green blobs in an office if you make your boss a cup of coffee. you earn browny points for all your doing is usally ass kissing and your boss fully knows what your doing .

to new members who dont know of people like Pred for his hard work in this community id suggest members as such as him should have under there name (audio/electronics specialist) something like that at least new members will know ahhh pred is the one who knows about the audio side of things il contact him! or make a pm function specifily for people such as him..

I.E you click contact pred then go to his profile page, you then on a scroll down screen state your intentions of contact (audio, graphics, friendly banter etc etc) you select audio but you then leave him a message that talks about ''oh how last night was great''! and due to the message does not replate to the reason of contact it automaticly gets deleted! in other words its stops people spamming Pm inboxes,im sure you Simo get plenty of messages that you know any other member could easily resolve. this kind of function would stop all this! but I aint got a clue if this function has even been invented yet LOLS.

and for the spamming side of things.

open upa new section on the forum perposly produced for banter...not the genreal descussion section I mean one for pure banter... then set the settings on that section of the forum to once a week delete all content and indexes......... that way that section will never be the same each week and no matter what crap gets posted in there it will be removed after one week . and before people are allowed ot post in that section they have to sign an agreement that states they must under no reason post XXX,slanderus, racist material.if done so INSTANT LIFE BAN!..its harsh but to put the message across you have to do things right and show your authority!

dam I could do a better job then gordon brown LOLS

thats my 2 cent .

personally i think rep should be bought back but for those who have abused the system their rep should be reset and if anyone abuses it in the future, reset their rep and disable them from giving/receiving rep for a month or something.

i think rep is a good thing when not abused. it gives an indication as to who knows their stuff and who is talking crap or just think they know whats best.

the majority of my rep is for helping people. i've only ever got rep once or twice for making people laugh. i very rarely give rep as i only give it to people who are helpful, not for being funny which is how i think rep should be used. the only reason i rarely give rep is because i rarely ask for help. i think rep is even more useful to new members when asking for help as they know who to listen to and who not to. newbies who are helpful and knowledgeable very quickly gain a good rep score which is how it should be. without rep people will just go by their post count which isnt right. just because people spam doesnt mean they are helpful or knowledgeable.

just to remove or reset the whole thing would be the wrong choice imo as people who are genuinly helpful will lose all the rep they have built up over time.
