Default Engine Auto-Diagnostic Light ?

Hi, my bf replaced my the idle control valve yesterday and ever since then when i first switch the car on the engine auto-diagnostic light comes on for one second or two then disappears. so it is never actually on when i am driving, it only lights up when i first switch the car on then goes out straight away. i just read in the manual that a few lights, including this one should light up when the key is turned to position M, and if they dont light up it could mean a problem, so should i not really be worried?
