Benchmarking
Thought I'd start a thread for benchmarking, see who's got the most powerful PC and components and where the bottlenecks are in the majority of systems (I'm hedging my bets on the rather predictable old graphics card), because i'm a super geek obviously .
Start by downloading 3D Mark 06, install it, run it, let it complete, post the specs and post the results.
There are loads of things you can do to improve you score, some marginally, some quite drastically, It's also quite addictive pushing for the fastest time, kinda like what I imagine sport is like for normal people. Anyway - It's good 'fun' (if you're lame as fuck like some of us), I also found when I was doing this for the first time round a few years ago I learnt a lot about windows/services/resource hogs and what is a good idea to turn of and what isn't, what works, what gives good performance gains (like turning of the eye candy in windows for example) etc. You also used (I don't know about now) to be able to create an account with futuremark and compare your results and see what spec people with similar(/any) scores have and how it correlates and who has the fastest out of everyone etc.
Then, to quote the great bumsayer;

Download SuperPI (for non-efficient multicore number crunching).
Run all the tests from 16k to 32m (will take no more than 15 mins if you've got a decent comp). Take a pic of the times for completion and post them up - state the vital stats
Here's mine...
4.6Ghz quad core - Win7 64bit
Lower the numbers the better.

Then post results for that as well.
I'll update mine as soon as I'm home.

How long does it take to run. I have a reasonably monstrous workstation due to arrive in a few weeks. Wouldn't mind giving it a run out

have a go at a program called si software sandra. Its a benchmarking tool used to test your components. You cant choose which ones youwant to test. Its pretty good and free IIRC.

Give it a run man, is it a laptop or a desktop?
i5 will probably beast my processor, surely? Dunno what sort of graphics card you have though of course which is obviously crucial to a 3d benchmark .

My PC has an Intel Q6600 running at 3.34GHz with 4GB of 1066 DDR2 RAM and an ATI 4870 Graphics card.
Here's my Super PI results:
Heres my 3DMark Score. Downloaded and run, not touched any settings:

I've not tweaked my settings for ages either. It was fun digging these out. not done any benchmarking for a while.
Anyone know what processes I should leave running on Win7 64bit and what I can turn off? Would like to get them scores up a bit
