cage painted and dash in...

familiar face goes on

slight issue with the pas pump. is not so much that the be box is bigger but the clutch cable and bracket are in the way...

easily solved with smaller pas bracket, sits closer to the front end.

with the bulk of the work done and only one weekend left to work on the car we felt we had time to relax a little...

knowing the car runs and the gearbox is all good was a massive relief (I have rebuilt gearboxes before but with short timescale this had to work!!!).

the doors was next on the agenda.

real happy with the results

onto the sunroof

or lack of...

saved the old plate from the black car and simply replaced the vinyl on it.

the finished part

fire extinguisher and battery iso plumbed in

now time for a decent clean before decals can be fitted. lots of t-cut on the paintwork and fuel used to clean over spray off the windscreen.

laying a million decals

complete shot of the bay. looks much cleaner than the old one.

time to remove the doors again

showing padding.

remove the kit

finished look once carbon vinyl and decal fitted.

for those that "just don't get" why I run with no door kit on the car... its 2kilo per door I can do without

so after all this work in only 4 weeks. it was soon the day before time attack round 4!

the car sent for mot (passed), taxed and insurance changed over.... its first real road test to bush tyres for tracking. it started running very rich. 9afr at idle! turned out vac pipe to boost gauge came off its t piece

on the road everything nice and smooth (for what it is lol). awesome gear change from satchel shifter. be box nice and gears a fraction shorter than vts ratios (pug 205 gti 1.6 gear kit 4.29fd).

with it being my local and original reason for wanting to run the series there really was no missing out. the build wasn't all plain sailing we did have some minor issues. can only thank simon and my mrs for being there to help build and also for moral support. tackling this much work and working 45-50hrs a week wasn't easy....

I have not wanted to update till now as never wanted to run out of time and look back thinking should been working on the build instead of uploading pictures and updating the blog.

hope you all like the new build. sorry there is not pictures of every bit of the build....

I will update from time attack once I have sorted through some pictures...

I have some cracking footage from cadwell

Cadwell Park Time Attack round 4...

so with a new car (sort of) for the 2nd half of the season... here is my local round. the one I been waiting for.

only the day before Time Attack had the car been mot tested, insured and taxed!

with only half an hours road testing and literally no track time under our belt we head off to Cadwell Park Lincolnshire...

arrive at the circuit with DDK transporting all our spares, tools, tent etc... 07:15 to find there is no room to park in the concrete paddock area we was allocated.

once a spot was found next to our buddy neil wren (also club class civic turbo b18)

passed scruitineering without issue.

on the way to drivers briefing bumped into a few familiar faces congratulating myself for making it.

few new TA faces this time with the classic series being introduced and a few extra on hit wonder entries.

warm up session 1 started at 09:00. being local circuit I felt happy in the new car.

once out on the circuit the sun was out for once and 90% dry circuit (ony wet in woodlands section).

I took my time before even thinking to push the car. the first time back on a circuit for myself since the accident. I feel fine confident but don't want to push anything.

my best lap being 1:53 isn't bad by some standards but this is warm up. I am happy the car is feeling good and tight. the new plated diff/tranx and be box feeling great.

once back in from my session I tell the team all is good and that we will have a good day with the car. all we do is check over the car for anything loose and fuel up for the next one.

practice session 2, I tell si I will be faster this time but don't expect a push from me yet

on circuit is fully dry and sun shining pretty nicely. a few laps in I decide its time for lights on and go for a lap. into charlies I feeling a lot of unwanted oversteer on entry. I feel this could be the lower nose on the car as we lowered the front for snetterton. I come in for tyre pressure check, adjust and go again. best lap a 1:45.50. not bad at all though 1st in class had just done a 1:40!

out in the session I could feel a knock from the front end... was a loose track rod and rack joint!

with that fixed the front end is raised 5mm to loose a little of the loose rear.

checking out the "this way up decal" was a present from another class competitor dan Clarke. top guy always happy to chat with dan

qualifying session 3, this session I had told myself to start finding the limits of this new tranx diff. I must say its brilliant. example... out hairpin 2nd gear 240 bhp, on apex can fully flatten throttle and have no wheelspin no power understeer is crazy good!

I manage a 1:44.70 I have been quicker before according to data logger on previous trackdays. however I am not fully committed yet.

take a moment here to say this looks so much like old car!

final session 4, spent most this session trying to get the lap timer to work lol.

had a good time here. some enjoyable lapping. its real nice being on circuit with these guys and their cars.

I take a few laps to warm the car up, put in 3 good laps then pit in for tyre pressure check, adjust and go out again not knowing there is only time for an out lap and a hot lap to follow!

luckily I am not to slow and make it through for hot lap.

on an absolute flyer really feeling good in the car only so see rapidly catching one of the classic buys in his escort. catching him at mountain bottom and having to stay behind through woodland section half throttle. once out last corner back full throttle and down pit straight to see chequered flag out.

gutted isn't right word for it.

id managed a 1:43.90 best lap and held up

here's the finals footage. ive uploaded the session rather than just a hot lap. this way you can get the jist of a full session

enjoy

Nice work dude. What stuff did you use to cover the sharp edges on the inside of the doors? I need to do mine.

Great write up Stu. Good to see your confidence hasn't been dented by the incident. Looks really quick on the second hot lap.

It's a Lego Technics FoldAway 2000XL!

You've done a hell of a job like Stew in the time you've had, great effort, and good to see you back on track giving it beans at Cadwell. Effort!
