Cadwell Park Time Attack round 4...
so with a new car (sort of) for the 2nd half of the season... here is my local round. the one I been waiting for.
only the day before Time Attack had the car been mot tested, insured and taxed!
with only half an hours road testing and literally no track time under our belt we head off to Cadwell Park Lincolnshire...
arrive at the circuit with DDK transporting all our spares, tools, tent etc... 07:15 to find there is no room to park in the concrete paddock area we was allocated.
once a spot was found next to our buddy neil wren (also club class civic turbo b18)
passed scruitineering without issue.
on the way to drivers briefing bumped into a few familiar faces congratulating myself for making it.
few new TA faces this time with the classic series being introduced and a few extra on hit wonder entries.
warm up session 1 started at 09:00. being local circuit I felt happy in the new car.
once out on the circuit the sun was out for once and 90% dry circuit (ony wet in woodlands section).
I took my time before even thinking to push the car. the first time back on a circuit for myself since the accident. I feel fine confident but don't want to push anything.
my best lap being 1:53 isn't bad by some standards but this is warm up. I am happy the car is feeling good and tight. the new plated diff/tranx and be box feeling great.
once back in from my session I tell the team all is good and that we will have a good day with the car. all we do is check over the car for anything loose and fuel up for the next one.
practice session 2, I tell si I will be faster this time but don't expect a push from me yet
on circuit is fully dry and sun shining pretty nicely. a few laps in I decide its time for lights on and go for a lap. into charlies I feeling a lot of unwanted oversteer on entry. I feel this could be the lower nose on the car as we lowered the front for snetterton. I come in for tyre pressure check, adjust and go again. best lap a 1:45.50. not bad at all though 1st in class had just done a 1:40!
out in the session I could feel a knock from the front end... was a loose track rod and rack joint!
with that fixed the front end is raised 5mm to loose a little of the loose rear.
checking out the "this way up decal" was a present from another class competitor dan Clarke. top guy always happy to chat with dan
qualifying session 3, this session I had told myself to start finding the limits of this new tranx diff. I must say its brilliant. example... out hairpin 2nd gear 240 bhp, on apex can fully flatten throttle and have no wheelspin no power understeer is crazy good!
I manage a 1:44.70 I have been quicker before according to data logger on previous trackdays. however I am not fully committed yet.
take a moment here to say this looks so much like old car!
final session 4, spent most this session trying to get the lap timer to work lol.
had a good time here. some enjoyable lapping. its real nice being on circuit with these guys and their cars.
I take a few laps to warm the car up, put in 3 good laps then pit in for tyre pressure check, adjust and go out again not knowing there is only time for an out lap and a hot lap to follow!
luckily I am not to slow and make it through for hot lap.
on an absolute flyer really feeling good in the car only so see rapidly catching one of the classic buys in his escort. catching him at mountain bottom and having to stay behind through woodland section half throttle. once out last corner back full throttle and down pit straight to see chequered flag out.
gutted isn't right word for it.
id managed a 1:43.90 best lap and held up
here's the finals footage. ive uploaded the session rather than just a hot lap. this way you can get the jist of a full session
enjoy
