so, the end of an era!
Terminal gearbox failure, coupled with having to dive shitloads into a now higher mileage car, lead me to scrap the poor thing
Before the end, I had moved the spotlights (sat in the number plate recess) and chalkboarded the bonnet
also had a bit of fun with an old roof rack for a day
and someone had fun destroying the mirror one night
and a nail in my tyre
the main reason for scrapping it was the engine was well past best. 176k miles, ate spark plugs
hated wet weather, leaked oil even with new gaskets and had suspected valve seal/piston ring failure. eventually the gearbox gave up the ghost right on a junction, with plenty of noise to boot (and stuck in gear).
it unfortunately showed every last one of its miles too, plenty of dings and scrapes and generally looked a sorry state, but was going to cost far more to repair than to replace.
so, the last ever photo of the saxo!
and onto the new car. 1.9d 206. 105k miles, tidy inside and out, just needs new tyres, a glowplug sorting and theres a tiny leak that eventually dumps the coolant. but 50+mpg and cheaper ins/tax is ideal, especially as the delivering used to kill petrol in the saxo!
plans? tidy up the exterior with new wheel trims or alloys if the price is right, washer jets, fix the few paint scuffs, tidy up the engine bay and perhaps a few mod cons on the interior to make it a bit plusher!
