they wont be playing anywhere near their full potenital and the sound quality will be poor as your running them off a head unit which has crap output.but if your really want to run them off a standard head unit they will work i suggest you get an aftermarket head unit or an amp to power them

ok well I'm gonna rig them up at the weekend and hopefully get a cheap 100 quid head unit during the week. thanks for the help 
by the way Scott, they were free so i don't really care if they are 6x9s or not

yeah that would work but mate i would look on ebay you could get a much better quality headunit at a similar price, have a look at alpines ones, cant really go wrong with one of them
or try www.caraudiodirect.co.uk, halfords is a shite place to buy ice usually over priced like most things in there

lol, 6x9s aren't my preference but as I have virtually no money they'll have to do.
Went for a job interview today at IKEA which went quite well so should be able to get some decent front speakers at christmas.
