Default 197 Problems - Update 1st post

I've only had it 2 weeks now, and these are the faults with the car already:

Drivers door seal leaks when driving - wind noise can be heard and felt

Windscreen Wiper - chunk missing out of it, leaves a 1 inch stripe of unwiped windscreen

Front Brakes - discs warped, steering wheel wobbles at lower speed when braking

Gaps in body work - different sized gaps in various places round the front end; bonnet does not sit straight

Front bumper does not sit flush under light - sticks out and getting damaged, but have seen this on another 197

Front Grill - very faded white and grey

Boot light - wire is hanging loose, doesn't turn off when boot is shut

Near side bump strip is coming off

Paint work on rear near side panel is shocking. Swirls, matte paint etc

Stickers - bubbles under all the stickers

Wheel Bolts - all brown with rust

Wipers - sometimes only goes on full spaz attack, or not at all, doesn't work on intermittent or slow wipe

Trip computer - freezes; cannot cycle between MTG, MPH etc etc

Boot - rattling coming from tailgate

Rear discs - looks like a vinyl record - deep grooves on them

Oil Leaking somewhere onto the head too

Car going in next weekend for just over a week - it had better be sorted or they won't be getting their money as I have raised a dispute on the transaction with Barclaycard for the reson "Goods provided not as advertised" - they are witholding the monies from the dealer until the situation is resolved.

It is all very well saying these things should have been checked before purchasing, but when you buy a car from an offical renault dealer, you really don't expect these sort of things to be wrong with it lol!

Bubbles

Front Grill

The effect that the wiper has

Check out how straight the top is...

Other side is better...

Bumper and Headlight

Back bumper sticker

Oil leak

Oil leak again

Alloy corrosion

Wheel bolts

Gap in the wiper

One side OK

The other not...

Bubble

Boot light

Gap one side

And the other

Car was "fully valted" which is why the seatbelt looks like it has been through a farmyard????

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
################################################## ######################
Update 20/07

Renault UK called and have said that the dealer called them regarding the front brakes.

One side is warped slightly, and warranty will not replace it as it is a wear and tear. In light of the low miles on the car, Renault HO said they will pay for the new discs and pads - both sides - a snip at £400!!

Getting somewhere at last!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

UPDATE 23/07

She is all done, everything been done APART from the stickers....one is not amused about that, but never mind.

Getting her back Monday after I get back from Germany Nurburgring!

Take it back and demand they sort it all

Edit - just noticed you said you were taking it back. If you go in and explain to them in a civilised manner that you would have expected all these to be checked before you took delivery I'm sure they will sort it out for you

How many miles were on it when you bought it? Either way that ain really acceptable.
Have you asked other 197 owners if they have the same kinda problems?

12k miles on it, 07 plate. £11k from a main dealer.

Just proves a point that big things should ALWAYS be paid for on a credit card - you have got MUCH MORE clout as the credit card company can withold the money from them until it is fixed!

Birmingham next weekend - gonna cost a fortune in fuel though, that car is a wee bit thirsty lol!

The funny thing is that on their ticklist it says "Wipers checked for wear"

D'uh - there is a massive chunk missing out of one of them lol!

There are plenty of nice ones around.

I thrashed the shit out of a few on track mid summer doing 30 min stints and the brakes didn't warp, yours must have been used on track to warm them, they are HUGE

On another note renault dealers are hillarious. They offered me £5k trade in on my trophy 6 months ago, and they would have advertised it at 8k+ without doing any prep. I've seen FMPs clio for sale at renault for a 3k profit, no prep done. They don't even both to inspect the car, they just sell it at a fat profit.

Pretty shocked at that, thought these cars were pretty bullitproof, at least for a French creation.

Hope they sort it all out hassle free dude

id of done the same you would not be looking for faults as bad as you would if you were buying an older car youd expect it to be pretty much mint and give it a very quick once over.

hope it all gets fixed matey
