Say hello to scrapso!

Seeing that this year we will have a saxo/106 cup in greece i decided i was going to get a car ready with all the spare parts i have kicking around from nearly 13 years of french tin ownership!

This particular car used to be a trackday/race car , it was then taken apart and sold as bits , a mate of mine bought it as a complete shell with a bolt in roll cage

when he saw the exact state of the exterior, interior and the 50 shades of blue the car had on it , he decided to sell it off . He managed to sell the cage tor a very good price leaving him the shell with : a tailgate , two doors , all the windows and some vt kit , no front end, running gear or interior!

Since the car has paperwork and after checking that its all straight underneath i bought it off him dirt cheap!

Poor thing has been man handled and power tools have been used on it in all the wrong ways

now i will let the pictures do the talking :

The idea is to quickly smarten up and clean the engine bay from all the bird poo welds , strip it all down and get a bolt in cage for it

P.S. and of course this is going to be HAAAM Motorsport race car lewis

small update

stripped the whole car down to bare shell , cleaned up most of the welds in the engine bay , took those plates of the strut tops ( going to order some new ones tomorrow) and started to sand down the roof and interior to get rid of the surplus of blue paint that has been brushed on....

also got a new timing belt kit , new water pump , denso iridium spark plugs , 4 liters of 10/60 castrol oil and an oil filter for the engine ! started to service that too now that its out

medium size update

got my strut top plates and bars welded in the beginning of the week

finished with my engine service, ended up taking the head off to use a proper 1.5mm J4 gasket as per regulations , got the partially worn 4 paddle clutch kit off my other saxo on it and mated a std vts gearbox with a 16/63 fd as per regulations "again"

two saxos .... thats got to be wrong

spent two days cleaning up the engine bay , took the windscreen off and ended up splashing some nice paint on it !!!!

Right now this is going to be a mega update !!!!

car was in to get the new bolt in rollcage for a week ... that drove me mad because i was losing precious time

so some photos of the car back with new cage in

immediately we took it out , hoovered the interior and started sanding it down and prepping for paint , next day ..... it was painted !!!!

bolted nearly everything on to check for clearance gaps etc

the new suspension i had to buy as per series regulations
sent the struts over and they have been machined to nearly 2 degrees negative camber !!!

so started to sand down the exterior to which we got a nasty suprise

rear left has been really badly repaired ... like REALLY badly....like 9mm thick fiberglass and filler... for a dent that was metal repaired in like 20 minutes

oh well ....

eventually got it painted last night at about 23:00 ... same time as all of the previous nights!!!

hopefully car will be completely bolted up by tonight!

greyjasper51 is coming over again today (from england ...... to greece....)
He plays racecars for bbq and beer

right another big update!!!

car was painted on wednesday 15/04 at night .... had to be at the track for saturday morning on the 18/04...

two very hectic days to finish it and get and get it ready for its racecar logbook test

Loads of problems though :
1. bleed nipples on rear calipers both broke off
2. master cylinder refused to help at bleeding the empty brake lines
3. all the vt kit need modding to fit on the car , i refused to stikaflex it all on
4. the wideband position on the exhaust pipe (which wasd ripped off annie) was fouling the gear selector main arm
5.fuel vapor pipes were broken on the fuel tank so had to find a way to fix them
etc etc etc with a ton of small niggles

thankfully greyjasper51 , my brother and father are all good at problem solving with big tools

eventually the car was finished late on friday night and we drove it to the local petrol station .... needless to say some things were forgotten !!! for example not all the pipework was attached on the fuel tank.... so it decided to piss itself right next to the pump , quick fix with a 6mm bolt

eventually it arrived to the track passed through scrutineering (after a mini quarrel with thge scrutineers about the seat bars and brackets ) , quick fluid check and off we went !!!

Only issues were the rear right calliper decided it wanted to seize up a little causing some smoke , but all was good after the second lap !!!

didnt get any more test sessions on saturday so we just watched my brother go around in his mk2 escort

come sunday , we decided some cup sponsor stickers were to be fitted and make it look like a racecar !

greyjasper51 decided everything should be measured, distanced and leveled equally ......

got another test session with brand new tyres up front and new brake pads , just to run them in for the next race , also got the car weighed

corner weights are slightly off and i need to shed 30 kgs off as min weight is 940

at the end of the day all of our cars still worked , even my spares built scrapso lasted for 25 minutes on track!!!

Mega thank to my Dad aka Popa smurf , my brother and off course Lewis for coming to greece again for help and spannering!!!!

more photos soon to come !!!

really late update !!!!

as the cup series never really took off , which left me with a std engine & gearbox based racecar and loads of money spent we decided we should race at any event we could participate in !!!!

so next event was achladocampos hillclimb event near tripoli , 4900m stage , testing on saturday the 6th of june and racing on sunday

all ready at the pits

first time out i took hillclimbing literraly and drove it up the side of the mountain !!!!
got it sideways on the brakes coming down from 3rd to 2nd ..... only minor scratches and cracks to the bumper

finished the testing , car was clearly underpowered , gearbox was too long and cheap ass cup tyres are no match to full out built N2 engines , 13/64 fd plated diffs and new michelin slicks ..... duh !

On race day : 1st session gear selector popped off the gearbox meaning i only had 3rd and 4th gears .... needless to say i clutch kicked the hell out of it to get to the finish line !!

2nd session , sort of fixed the gear selector , took my besttime down by 5 sec and finished last

loads of things learnt and yet car is still in one piece !!!

and some incar footage of my attempt at the second race session !!!

next on the race list is a local rally sprint !

single stage event that is repeated twice , 18 kms of downhill stage !!!

so getting the car ready according to rally regulations

fire extinguisher plumbed in , nozles over driver , codriver and in the engine bay over intake and alternator . Also we have to have at least one spare wheel and tyre , first aid kit , reflective triangle , basic tools and a jack

after my dad had a complete fit that i should go and find a plated diff and shorter fd i managed to get hold of a std 16v gearbox fitted with a pattented modified std diff that is now plated and has a 13/59 or 4.5 FD on it from an S1 rallye

aaaaand from all of my spares my brother made an extra gearbox consisting of 16v gears , 16v std diff and a 14/60 or 4.2 fd , as a spare with slightly shorter gearing

next update will hopefully be of the car finishing next event
