Undecided
I'm a fucking nightmare, I was looking to buy a car next month....a weekend car, a motor that was a bit mental with big bhp and would be fun as hell.
There were a few Impreza's that tickled my fancy and I narrowed it down to one which was a bit more tame but another motor has appeared on the scene and it's tickled that soft spot......wait for it.......it's a........a fucking 207 Gti
Wtf!!
But in my defence the 207 is a bit mental, especially for what it is. I've been to see it and it goes like a scalded cat and has been tuned to the moon and back, a definite sleeper that's been kept subtle on the outside. It's a lot cheaper than the Impreza that i like but I can't decide.
Choices choices, i could buy both but the missus would kick up fuck.....and I can't be doing with that, she won't let me sell the Wagon either. I thought I could have sold that's and she could have used the newer Impreza as a daily......but nope!
Fuck knows

What model of Impreza?
207 GTI is a real marmite car, personally i'm not sure if I like the look of them, but in white they do look good. Adverts of each?

Worked on a lot of 207's now because I make a loom that converts the radio plug to ISO and also make a iPad kit for them. If you are wanting to modify the 207 in any way be prepared for a long slog. Even fitting a air filter can mess with idle. They are really really pissy to play with. Nice car though. Build quality is also a issue.

It's a STI hatchback.....2008 with a great spec, nothing mental but the engine is fully forged so no issues with the pistons failing.
The 207 is mental, it's running a td05 20g with an estimated 360-380bhp on high boost and 300-330 ish maybe @ 1.3 bar.

Ie dont mean to sound like a bell end here but mental isnt 380bhp. Especailly not in something my gran would take to tesco and park in the disabled space...
Surely the day of the sleeper is long gone(sadly) Like big wheels and body kits (sadly). Now its about fast cars out of the box with vts wheels?

Well the way I see it is it's mental for what it is......of course it ain't mental when you compare it to something that has big bhp straight out of the box,but with more than double the std power then to me that makes the 207 a bit mental.
I totally understand what you're getting at though, the car I was originally after was a Scooby with 640bhp but that sadly got sold, there's a few others that I'm looking at, one being a bugeye with 545bhp but TBH I'm not a massive fan of the bugeye.

I do see where you are coming from, genuinely.
However the 207 is still something my gran takes to tesco.., much like a Micra with Skyline running gear and 800bhp might be kinda cool. Its a Micra. At least start with a reasonably cool platform... and in my mind the 207 isnt that.
HOWEVER if thats your car, idea of cool and mental then why the fuck care what anyone else cares, BUY IT! Rip much more expensive cars off the lights etc... and be happy.

Personally, I'd go for a Scooby Hatch. Bugeye is gross! Hawkeye/Hatch are the better looking models.
If the hatch is fully forged too that's a bonus

This one is, TBH I wasn't a hugely fan of the hatch either but this one looks lovely with some nice mods. Plenty scope for upping the power further down the line with the engine being fully forged.

I agree, they don't always look good. Got a link to the advert?

Btw - Killin - nice part of the country! Love it up that way, had a mate who moved up there for a while before coming back down to Edinburgh.

Here's a link to the car before this seller bought it, the guy who actually had all the work done. I stumbled across this whilst doing something online searching. The top 2 pics were the most recent, I have a few pics I'll try and upload.

^^Definitely.
If that scooby is in budget I wouldn't even think about a 207.

Livingston.
I've decided the Scooby is the way to go, paying a deposit tonight and hopefully be picking it up within the next 2 weeks.
I think that was the sensible choice, everything from practicality to better performance. It'll be a 2nd car for me which means it will get used more often than not when going away with the family and the 207 would have been a no no for that.

No doubt at all it was the right decision. A sleeper is fun, but a wolf in sheeps clothing is the kind of thing you do yourself. Get some cheap old motor, upgrade the brakes and suspension then throw in a turbo engine whilst still keeping the outside looking unassuming.
Cheap (ish), simple, fun and fast. You wouldn't have got that with the pug.
