When engine is turned on, an odd whining noise comes from the front, (sorry cant be specific enough here) another thing i notice is when i engage the clutch, there is a clinking noise.
also a while ago i noticed when u hold the clutch to the biting point, the car judders. this mostly happens in reverse.

What model Saxo is it? Need to shed light on that lol.
Clinking from the clutch is almost certainley the release bearing.
And the whining might be the water pump, cambelt tensioner and idler if its a VTS.

the solution, a new clutch thrust bearing and a clutch kit. cost around £300 including labour.
any1 know if this is a reasonable price, or am i being ripped.

Clutch would be £90 + and labour depends where you go. Gear box will have to come out and that takes a good 2 hours. Do it yourself lol.
Yer the release bearings are pap and rattle like fuck. I think thats an ok price but a little less would be better.

I'd shop around for a price for your clutch, somewhere which specialises in doing clutches all day long is likely to give you a better price than that. When I got mine done I was quoted from around £160-£300. Some offered warranties, etc, some didn't. Do you hear rattle sound when you're sat idling with the clutch up? If so, it is probably something to do with your release/thrust bearing.
If it's just a clunking when setting off though I wouldn't automatically assume clutch, I'd check if anything was loose or knocking when you lift the clutch to set off.
The whining noise could be your cam belt too, or they may be connected and just one or the other.
