alrite guys, just brought a vts gearbox for my 2001 saxo mk2 vtr but i've been told i shouldnt of. i'm aware buying the box with my the gear changes quicker which i like but a chap top end! and the other thing is i'm buying my mates ported and polished head with cam off him soon and apprently its best to have a vtr box so the cam can kick in longer with the longer ratio?!
what do u guys think? shall i sell the vts box and get another vtr one? cause my vtr one blow up! cheers

your mates are talking tosh. its the box you want.

1 top end wont be lost at all.
2 the cam doesnt go for longer cause the gearbox is longer. it has nothing to do with it. the cam decides where the power band will be

what cam is it?

That box will be better, shorter ratio generally equals better acceleration ;)

erm inform your friends from me they are officially retarded and talking shite!

A vts box wont shift quicker either, the box has different ratios which means it will behave differently, usually giving better in gear performance, and in your case lower top end at the sacrafice for slightly better acceleration.

alrite cheers for that guys, the cam was a reprofied by kent cam and the head with machined ported and polish with new valves, big valve head, opened throats by mad for it in cornwall, mainly ford tuning but my mate knew the owner, and they've shut down now! any way he wants 300 for head and cam fitted which i fought is a very good price.

you dont want a reprofiled cam mate. you want a new solid one with vernier pulley

yeh but has car was rapid before he crashed it, and for 300 fitted im not going to complain! i know what you mean though but i dont want to spend more for near enough the same performance

you will then need a map?

yeh i've been quoted £285 for that but i dunno if thats a proper remap, i think it was for a superchip? are they any good or is a proper remap better? do u known any companys that do remaps? i live in plymouth but am willing to travel for it. cheers

most people go chipwizards up manchester way. around 500 notes. yes it will be better than a superchip as it will be independately mapped to the car, not a guess like a superchip

superchips are a no go!

will he not sell you his ecu thats been mapped?

mapping an 8v is generally cheaper than a 16v

if you have big valve head mate, id stick in some a proper cam aswell to get something out of the head. the heads overkill to a shitty reprofiled cam. i know you want to keep cost down but your getting it mapped so id go with a diff cam before so you get some good gains

says hes had a kent reprofiled cam, we dont know what the profile is before saying its a shitty one.
