Right i got a change of plan lol am now thinking of doing the 16v conversion to my car

*need to make my mind up on wat to do lol*

getting abit confussed with it all which aint hard for me lol!! i understand that i am gonna need:

Engine
Gearbox
ECU *n i know i will have to get it unlocked*
Wiring loom
Rad

bt wat i am confused about is my car a 2001 VTR with a 3plug ECU so does that mean i am gonna need a Late Y plate VTS engine with the 3plug ECU or can i get any of them but say i get the old shape VTS engine i will have to run the single plug ECU???

and is the conversion quite easy like could have it all done in a weekend?

:y:

if you get a 3 plug then it will be plug and play with no wiring to do. If you get a single plug then it will be hard to wire up.

You also need a lower engine mount from a vts.

basically look at a 2000 vts + (oval shape headlights) mk2, got the driveshafts, ecu, gearbox basically all the engine parts, and bung it in job done!

you dont need the driveshafts.

nor do you need the rad if yours is in good nick. or the gearbox, though the vtr ratios arent quite suited to the 16v.

yer but dont u need the twin fan for the vts engine coz it would get too hot otherwise?

vts's dont have a twin fan they just have a bigger rad with the option of a air-con fan for the european models

put it this way my engine was previously used hard by someone and it only had a vtr fan and rad set up.

16v on bodies.

the cooling fan doesnt sit on all the time anyway. If you are on a budget you can retain your 8v fan and rad set up.

8v rad is fine tbh, aslong as its quite new and bled proper with correct amount of anti freeze.

The gearbox from a VTR should work with a VTS. The gear ratio on the VTR gearbox is better too, not by a lot though.

Hardest thing would be finding a VTS Engine. Their like rocking horse shit. Lol. Your talking like £900 for the engine.

the vtr ratios are crap and theres no way just a engine will cost £900, i paid £250 for my last one that had done 40k and had the 2 prong head and single plug ecu

the best place to look for one is proberly ebay there are quite often ones on there including loom, driveshafts etcs for around £400 even if it has parts you dont need you can keep them as spares

i reali need to get a low millage one though coz my car onli done 59k so there like no point me buying a vts engine with like 70k on the clock lol!!!

plus if i buy a mk1 vts engine with wiring loom n ecu will that still work?

i take it that it is just easier to buy a mk2 one coz of my 3plug ecu then u dnt have to change the wiring loom?

Or could u get a mk1 engine but run it on a 3 plug ecu coz the ecu needs to b unlocked anyway??

*so many questions such little time :l*
