ask your friends to tow you max £10 for a tow rope cheapist way i can think of lol

why dont you start with exhaust, air filter all ways parts on here cheap then strip the interior out less weight = faster car

Only joking....

Theres not much you can do to be fair. Exhaust, air filter etc dont really give any noticeable gains.

engine conversion

What cars do you mates drive?? There’s not much you can do really tbh… stripping it out would probably be the cheapest most effective thing you could do

As above.

VT* Conversion?

just be hush on the insurance ;)

i wouldnt worry too much about the power if you drive a 1.1. just accept the fact you dont have a high bhp. major/noticeable power increases will cost loads. maybe spend money on making it handle better. lower it, better wheels maybe, new brakes etc. that will make it more respectable.

another thing you could do is strip out any un needed weight in the car. that wont cost much at all. making it lighter will make it quicker! look at some stripped out examples on here. there are quite a few examples of 1.1s actually.

Know how you feel mate. When I passed my test I found I couldn't even afford to insure a saxo furio:n: . Just strip it out and fit a better air filter and/or zorst:y: That way you'll get a better BHP to weight ratio:y:

every 10kg removed is worth about an extra 1hp or so (very very roughly)

remove everything you dont need like parcel shelf, seats, glass, light fittings, dash
if you're fat, get thin.
keep your fuel really low
remove the spare wheel.
replace the heavy stuff with light weight components etc etc

Driver training course

Failing that, vts engine conversion

uprate the suspension, fit the stickiest tyres you can and try to carry your speed through the corners. An extra 10-15mph on cornering is worth a lot more than speed on the straights. You may not have the power to overtake but you'll keep up for sure

+1 to kam racing

set of vts rims running eagle f1's

and maybe sum lower psring jsut 35's or 40's so there still hard and ull b fine maybe even the omp strut braces upper and lower

jsut have some fun and save your money till you have 1 years no claims then youll b surprised what you can insure.

at 18 with 1 ync you could get a 150hp starlet gtturbo ehhh ? :y:

(starlet is full comp at 1300 btw)

Standard 1.1 steelies are 11.5kgs each in weight (tyres incl)
Total = 46kgs unsprung weight)

Invest in some lightweight alloy wheels (although tricky for 3 stud)

i.e. OZ Ultraleggera wheels are 5.5kgs each at 15" (tyres excl.)
Total = 22kgs unsprung weight (again tyres excluded)

Thats quite a substantial difference, that said looking at the title of the post... cheap??

No, around £595ish for a set with decent tyres.

To improve performance it will cost quite a lot of money but all it will achieve is: Quicker acceleration, quicker deceleration, better cornering speed and ability (using above posts advice) and possibly marginally higher speed.

To summarise, for the money spent it is far more economical to buy a factory standard faster car (as and when insurance allows!)

i had a 1.1.

Do a VTR conversion and keep hush is an alternative.
1.1 sleeper ftw ;)

Im doing a VTS conversion though as i dont like the sounds of not being insured

foglights would be a good starting point then when you turn them on prepare for wetty time

let all your mates tyres down, then you'll be quicker than all of them :y:

Andybon

or the old 10bhp rule, When you want to go faster, start to rock backwards and forwards violently in your seat, the more in the car doing it, the better :y:

what car's have ur mates got??

KamRacing
19th September 2007, 19:08
fit a peugeot 1.3 rallye engine.. 101bhp would make the car significantly faster and wouldn't hurt the insurance too much I bet!

tbh, modding a 1.1 is not really worth the effort, if were you save a little (the money you would of spend modding your 1.1) and sell it when you have a years or two years ncb and either get a vtr or if you still cant afford that then a furio, atleast you have the skirts and arches for a furio to look sick even without the speed, try get a vtr though man
