Is there a fairly simply way to make an SPI into a MPI? (changing the inlet etc) Also could you fit wilder cams to a 1.1? Just some silly thoughts lol. :afro:

lol tbh i like your thought but easier and cheap to put a vtr lump in.

as john says vtr lump

Was only an idea just thought if the scrappy had a VTR i could take the inlet swap it and change cams to something i little better than standard 1.1. Could you fit a 1.4/1.6 cam in a 1.1?

dunno if it would be possible to do what your suggesting but i'd bet it'd be more straight forward just to put a vtr engine in it... a lot less work would need to be done

Just thinking of small improvments an not looking to spend a few hundred for a new motor and then up insurance hugely plus havent got anywhere or anyone to change engine.

alextoffie

camming a 1.1 and doing the inlet etc would cost you a few hundred on insurance i bet

mattchewone
1st November 2007, 15:34
Cost more to insure and fit a VTR engine then it would to just cam and change inlet on the 1.1 wouldnt it?

alextoffie

tbh mate i really dont know

i pay just under a grand on a vtr and im 19

you'd just have to ring up and check i guess

Oh right no worries i was really just wondering if it can be done lol. Could i use 1.4/1.6 cams and there inlet?

Be cheaper to buy a proper VTR and insure that. If you can't afford to do that then don't bother. Save the money for something else.

Even if a 1.4/1.6 inlet and cams do fit, the gain on a 1.1 is really going to be minimal. I don't know the specifics of these engines to say if they will or won't fit but even if they did, it probably wouldn't be worth the hassle.

:n: Never mind just a thought really. Thought it would make it a little more nippy and bit more fun never mind eh.

as far as i can work out mate the 1.4/6 cams wont work in the 1.1
the engine/management will not be able to handle the setup the new cams would provide. this will also go to the inlet as well.

if they did fit you would need a new management setup costing you aroun £500 for installation and setup.

you would be cheaper buying a new car like VTR standard rather then putting an engine or anything else in it.

Cheers for the info. Worth a thought they eh.

would be better putting a vtr lump in or getting a vtr mate:y:

Anyone know how much a VTR lump would cost and what else would be needed, Unlocked ECU, Gearbox, driveshafts, brakes. Anything else thats got to be more expensive than a VTR itself?

here's a link for you what you will need basically the same as a vts conversion http://www.saxperience.com/forum/showthread.php?t=58507

Think im just guna get a new car or fix up the damage on mine. Dont know what i want really. Really like saxo's but they just always go wrong lol Like the Corsa VXR but way too expensive. Just guna keep the 1.1 all my life lol. Thought adding cams would give me a change thats all never mind! lol

Well if your happy with your car and want to be different what the hell, go all out on your 1.1 you might as well! Just make sure that you keep it labelled as a 1.1 lol smoke some ass!

Cheers i would only do it as i cant aford to insure anything else prices are ridiculous tbh! Anyone know what would fit or can be changed on the 1.1?

Jackman
1st November 2007, 18:19
Wouldn't waste the time or money tbh mate..

just my opinion though.

Just use the 1.1 to keep insurance down until you can afford to insure something with more power..

you time and money at the end of the day though :P

Anything constructive would much be appreciated, i understand everyones comments but would like to add something to it while i still have it. even if its small just to give it back some power as im sure most of its 60horses have been lost.

I take it the inlet couldnt be changed without it being a MPI? What about different cams? Surely there has to be something kicking around that'll fit.

Confused lol. Didnt want to change engine as it is a lot of work and havent got the space to do it or the money tbh, just thought i may be able to pick up a cam from a 1.4 or something at the breakers.

"is there a fairly simply way to make an SPI into a MPI?"

Yes, swap the hole engine, loom and ecu.

"Also could you fit wilder cams to a 1.1?"

Yes there are many cams from people such as Kent and piper that can be used.

The second option sounds better to me lol Anyone got any links or prices also what would be needed? If anything else needs changing?

tbh I wouldn’t bother modifying the 1.1 at all performance wise especially on a budget you won’t notice any gains imo… just put the money into better brakes suspension and wheels/tyres

mattchewone
1st November 2007, 23:09
:n: Cheers i think ill just sort out the bonnet and wing and leave as is then. I think i might get a VTR next year sometime and then Strip and Slag the 1.1 with a VTS engine.

Sophia_Bush

now thst better idea

SaxoJamie
2nd November 2007, 13:12
If you want it to go faster strip it out:y: I'd either have a VTR engine put in or wait until I could afford to buy a VTR:y: I wouldn't bother trying to cam a 1.1 tbh as it would be expensive and you wouldn't gain much in the way of power plus cams would put your 1.1 engine under a lot more pressure and might make it less reliable.

mattchewone
2nd November 2007, 13:16
It suscks probably got to wait a few years till i can afford to insure one! Sucks to be me. Only wanted a small gain to be honest but never mind. Good things come to those who wait.....................

...... What a load of sh*t! lol
