Hey everyone ive been reading up getting new a new cam but i dont really no the reprocussions of it all, once it is fitted what is next to do i.e do i have to get my ecu re programmed, timing sorted?? this may seem an obvious question but im afraid im new to all this,:panic:

the only other thing was due to it being only 8 valve how easy is it to change it to a 16v dohc?? and againw hat are the reprocussions just i would prefer to have a dohc n then get it cammed?

cheers guys

Right first things first, if you want the 16v DOHC engine then buy the complete original 16v engine and fit it, dont bother trying to turn your 8v into one, it wont work unless you put an awful amount of money into it, so it will be cheaper and easier to just get a 16v engine put in..

If you cam the 8v to get the msot out of the cam you will require a remap..

Depending on how wild the cam is will depend what extra things you may need to do..

ive noticed a few people talking about cam kits can anyone recomend any to look at? and how do i go about getting my ecu re-mapped?

Whoever told you that is wrong..lol

Piper are good one to look at, they make good Cam Kits, well almost every cam manufacturer has good ones out..

For the remap get hold of any mapping company, tell them your mods and they should be able to setup your car pretty well..

Fit a new cambelt when you do the Cam, if you get a Cam Kit it will come with a cambelt anyway so when the cambelt is fitted the timing will be done anyway..;)

(did i say anyway too much..:P)

If you can afford the 16v insurance etc then dont hesitate. Its the only logical solution for the VTR.

IF you can afford to cam the VTR engine you can afford the S engine lol. Which gives you a 30bhp gain....

A good S engine is usually about £400 quid with all the bits for the R conversion as you don't really need much. The rad and fans is an optional extra that you can put in at a later date to save on initial cost. And it gives you a proper engine to tune in the future, with proper results.

The cams for an R are about £200, then you can run it as is but the cams will only be giving you about 8 - 10bhp and a lumpy idle. So you need a remap thats usually about £400. And with the cams you'd probably get 25bhp gain. A Kent PT40K cam kit seems to be a common one on the R.s

Depends what cams he gets though Ste..

There are load out there from small gains to massive gains..

You cant really give estimations on power gains unless we know what Cam or Cams he is getting..

i wont be able to afford the insurance on a vts it gets wayy to expensive so i think thats the engine conversion out of the window,i had no idea it cost 400 for a remap so im looking at a big expense if im to cam it?

Angel Tuning are very good for remaps and they won't cost anywhere near £400.

bmc or raceland with green filter seems to be the choice

can get both from the kam racing site

ive got the raceland... its a bit of a bastard to fit simply because it doesnt come with all the right parts but it can be worked around

i've got a few mates who've used Angel Tuning in the past... always had good feedback about them
