Hi there, im new to this forum and do not yet have a saxo but will soon be purchasing a VTR ( Hopefully.)

I read on this forum that a custom exhaust is not really a good idea. Is this true, and if yes, is it still true for the properly set up custom exhausts that cost like £500.

Below is the list of mods that i am thinkin of doing to my VTR. I dont think that i will go for a turbo just yet because of insurance reasons.

Here are the mods:

- Magnex or Custom Exhaust(Please advise)

- Kent Cams cam kit

- Pipercross Viper Induction kit Or the K and N Generation 2 induction Kit

- Ported and polished cylinder kit

- Uprated spark plugs and leads

- Chip or even new Programmable ECU

- Uprated hoses

What do ya all think and can u reccomend me for some of the things that i am unsure of.

Thanx

Fishie

ok well custom exzorsts are pretty much guess work as they make it up there and then, they are not gasflowed or designed for the right back pressure either so my advice would be to buy a decent s\s one. I would go for a full system with a 4-2-1 manifold and decat.

I'd also get a decent induction kit on there, bmc, k&n generation 2, green or viper are all going to give you similar gains.

It terms of the cam you have a number of different options although I wouldn't go any higher degree than 270 unless you going to run throttle bodies.

The Dastek is the best chip which is mappable to suit your set up and engine.

plugs and leads are not going to give you much on a n\a engine and neither are uprated hoses.

in terms of head work I would really suggest staying away from this as with n\a its a lot of money for small gains. Theres no real need to polish modern heads as there are pretty good anyway although matching the ports is more worth while but like i say for good headwork its a lot of money and without running a wild cam or f\i it isn't worth the money.

As for the fast and furious sound lmao god i hate that film that would be a dump valve which can only be fited to a turbo!

when i sed f & f sound i meant the actual exhaust note.

Thanks for the reply it seems quite useful, i was confused because i have read that people have gained like 20hp from some custom exhausts whereas most pre-made ones only give like 5hp at the most.

I cant actually remember the number of degrees but im sure it was 280 which is the more wild one. This is the one i was thinking of getting and i was also going to get the head work to match this. How much would a full kit for the throttle bodies cost and what sort of a gain cud i expect from this.

Thanks for the help
