i need to get a backbox for my vtr 98bhp mrk 2. just been looking on a website and found an ashley exhaust backbox for about 90 quid does anyone know what there like or if there good. also the magnex one is about 140 quid what are the differences between the two if any.

Ashley full system will cost just shy of £200.
Get that, will see some nice gains from it, and a lovely noise. (loud though)

Magnex are heavy....
Magnex are dull and quiet..
Magnex are Stainless steel though, which does rock ;)

agree with soulless, but tbh its not all about loud exuahst, i like the magnex rumble, not annoyingly loud, but overall i think id rather have an ashley only because of the performance gains over lets say magnex.

and id fork out a bit more cash and get full ashley system as soulless sugessted

i was gonna get the full system later on. just wanted a backbox for now. i have kind of noticed that with magnex they seem to be really quiet.

well if you have the money for a Magnex ~ add £50 and you got a full ashley system.
Makes more sense to me ;)

tbh- Magnex is a sensible choice, not loud for motorways etc, but you know its there.

but my moneys with Ashley for performance.

Piper > all for quality imo,
not a fan of scorpion theyre pretty boring sound wise.

Everyone seems to think ashleys are all noise and nothing else!

Just for the books...
I have a mk2 VTR with a full ahsley system and its NOT LOUD! On tickover its quiet and when you havent got your foot planted to the floor. But when you DO open it up, you know your opening it up!!!! If you get me!!

It sounds beautiful!!!

I wouldnt change it for the world!

Id personally go for a ashley exhaust, think they sound much better. I had a magnex on my 205 and it sucked big time; no power and a really rubbish noise, completly put me off them.

Id would rather go for the Magnex over the Ashley, but tbh Supersprint is where
its at or Scorpion.

Magnex can be slightly more restrictive than those.

will have to disagree with you there mate, the scorpion is quite good from what ive seen of it on my car. cant comment on the others, as i havent used them

will it have a cat in it cos the mrk2 vtrs have the cat in the manifold. or will just be straight through cos i don't want 2 cats lol.

Im with that mate

Piper would be my first choice (being ordered in the next few days ;))

and then Supersprint etc
Magnex are no no's for me along with some other makes but im picky :)

Piper sound the nuts, £200 for a full system including 4" tailpiped backbox
Quality is very, very good and the system is pretty light :y:

I've got the 4" ashley backbox. It hangs at an angle, which i like because it's different and it sounds really good. I wouldn't change it for the world LOL :p

not sure if the ashley backbox will fit onto the standard centre section without some sort of adapter as it looks like this

4" tailpipes are too big for a Saxo, imo...

Coonper

Yes 4" is too big!
Mines only 3", and it sticks out at an angle. So does my exhaust come to think of it...:homme:

I bought the backbox on it's own and it came with the adapter and apparently it fitted perfectly!!

Not a chance young man

I;ve tried them all and the Ashley is by far the best, supersprint comes next then piper, any thing else is a waste of time

For the little extra performance its well worth getting the Ashley

The noise they make is class

Ashley is well proved in grass roots motorsport, they are mild steel but thats why there so cheap, the exhaust will last you plenty long enough anyway! :y:

Youtube ashley exhausts and you can have a listen.

sorry - ive jumped in half way but you guys reckon on an ashley then for performance gains and sound? i mean i dont do much motorway driving but when i do i like to be able to hear myself think if you get what i mean?? For 200knicker i can get an ashley system from cat back?]

If someone who's got one of these could PM with some details of where to get it from etc that would be great

Thanks - Matt

The ashley is very good on the motorway. Unless your foot is planted to the floor it doesnt really make any noise. But it makes one hell of a sound when you do floor it!;)

Heres a quick sound clip so you get the idea...

I would definitely recommend one for a vtr!! Search ebay for em. The guy was helpfull and he gives you free postage. Make sure you get the one thats more expensive out of the two that come up. This is the mk2 version! £169.99 iirc. The mk1 is £140.

Thats the one you need...
