dunno how you can get 170bhp with that you would need some form of cams and throttle bodies

hey guys,
first of all ... welcome back lol
i found the paper work that i got from LAD Motorsport and thought i'd post the details of what they did to produce the 170bhp.
the only thing i found out is the car is quicker than it was by a mile, but still dont think its hitting 170bhp.
its as follows ....
"strip down engine bay, remove cylinder head. modify to fast road spec to include machine cut inlet and exhaust ports. modify valve throats and seals. increase c/ratio. fit new valve springs and seals. fit new timing belt. fit cylinder head gasket. re-fit head back on to engine. fit camshaft and reset valve timing. bleed cooling system. fit new four branch manifold. remove front discs and fit new cross drilled ones with fast road pads. fit new rear brake pads and discs".
tell me what you think.
cheers
So they havent fitted any form of cams, throttle boddies or ecu management? Might have 130-135 if your lucky....

They don’t tell you much. Give them a call and ask what cam they have fitted. As they have fitted new valve springs it should be something wild. or is it the stock ones back? On the face of it sounds ok, just could do with a good map. But really I would have wanted to know exactly what was done and exactly what parts were fitted.

as said did they justify changing the valve springs or just happened to change them

Does sound good mate but £1200 alot of mullah bud and i cant see it making any more than 135-140 tops bud!! but if its faster than the standard and you are happy with that then there should not be a problem m8.

Sounds like you would be pushing around 140bhp with that spec mate, which is good but get some cams in and you'd see it truly fire up with that spec. 170 very optmistic. Try to get a RR result and see what you think...

seems to me llike another overinflated lad figure to me.
the quality of the work may be fine, but i feel trading standards should take a step to stopping the 'real bhp' figures that they quote to lure in customers who are less clued up.

...Completely agree tbh, they shouldn't be making such bold claims especially as they take no steps to prove it.

they do, false RR graphs lol

Independant rolling Road, in fact even 2 or 3 if you can shell out, put your mind at rest, compare all results and you'll know roughly what you're really pushing... if LAD use their own rolling road or one affiliated with their company you just know the results will be *ahem* ever so good ;)

get it on a rr to make sure mate.
getting it on a RR doesnt make sure.
A dyno is the way for a sure tests, RRs can easily be wrongly calibrated or the testers do the run in the wrong gears

LAD really need to be sorted out, over quoted figures are going to trick so many people that don't know the ins and outs of engine modifications!! Out of order really, maybe thats why we always get over quoted figures from people with 1.2 corsa's lol

I have been thinking do they promise to make your car 170bhp or offer to do it?? Because if you can prove your car isnt 170bhp and you have any form of contract with them. You would be able to sue them in court for the loss of a bargain, and then you would be able to recieve all the money it would cost to make your car 170bhp!!
Thats if you got that annoyed with them for lying to you!

Get them to make a contract with him, take it to the citizens advice bureau and they would probably help you. And then you would have a leg to stand on if it didnt make 200bhp ;)

a company would easily get away with it just by wording the contract correctly

Well saying approx. 200bhp and giving the lad a car with 150 is way off, so im sure you would get somewhere

Depends who worded the contract then doesnt it ;) But you never know they seem to think there actually making these figures!!??

I think its awful that ppl like Pipercross put +10bhp to a Saxo VTS on their Viper airfilter.

It all pr though isnt it... Who would pay £200 or woteva pound the vipers are for 2-3bhp?

30th November 2007, 12:27
ENGINE and EXHAUST
Power raised to approximately 160 bhp at the flywheel by extensive cylinder head modification, incorporating larger inlet and exhaust ports and revised camshaft timing. An exhaust manifold and system based on the rally Kit Car engine can be fitted to the 160 bhp kit; this produces another 10 bhp raising the power output to approximately 170 bhp.
Off the LAD website - key word would be approximately!!

exactly its mad.
infact a 205 GTi 1.6 lost 1bhp with a Viper on a RR iirc from a magazine feature.

from what I've seen of their work it performs..
dubious power claims though. Only certain way to check those is an engine dyno.

BMC
Magnex cat back

beat one of those up the 1/4 by a considerable margin
mine was stripped out but still i thought with an extra 30 bhp it would have me
Karl
30th November 2007, 15:26
you made 140bhp with breathing mods? O.o
Sammy
