1 of my mates has an AX with a vts engien engine which he's doing a turbo conversion on. he's adapting an aftermarket manifold from another car to fit the saxo so needed a flange making up. just used a gasket to get the shape from and i done the rest. thought i'd take some pics along the way.

not bad machining. however the holes arn't exactly even mate?

could make fabricating the rest harder.

also it looks very thick? or is it just the perceptive that we see it.

what do you mean the holes arent even? all the same size and same distances apart. its juts where i took the burrs ff the holes what makes them look different. been machining for the last 8 year. thats the material he gave me to make it with, all i had to do was machine it.

btw, the bottom of the port isnt meant to be straight, if thats whast confusing you?

all teh distances and size are the same to within 0.1mm

just a basic miller that one. just has an indexing head and a chuck on it. got a digital readout aswll but still pretty basic one. i just use that and the small lathe to do all my fiddle jobs on. i prob spend more time making stuff for myself than i do for the company, lol.

Miller does look pretty basic, still good job there. I work for british areospace as a miller. Just wondering, how you managed to get the curves right on it? did you just hand feed it? I cant of seen the chuck coming in very handy to be honest.

williamsvts

i didnt use the chuck. its just on the machine. you i just hand fed it.

what a nob i am :p

at first i thought it was strange he was giving me aluminium to make an exhaust flange with. then today i went and tried it up against an old vts manifold. and the holes were in completely the wrong place.
so my first thoughts were that he used the wrong gasket as a template.
called him up and its a flange for an inlet manifold :P thats why it didnt fit.
