More to come...

Chapter 1 - The beginning!

Alright everyone!

Thought i would start my progress thread :y:

Right, i passed my driving test in September, i originally wanted to get a furio or even a vtr, but the insurance was to much on the vtr, so i ended up buying the westcoast.

Heres some pics when i first brought it:

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh86/wallsy6890/Picture020.jpg

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh86/wallsy6890/Picture017.jpg

The car was in all round good condition, only fault was it had a smashed front headlight but i ordered a new one straight away. It already came with alloys, which were mega curbed, and a peco backbox, ohhh yeahh ;) lol

After about a week of driving it i already had some problems :n: Every time i started it it made a horrible grind noise, so thought it was the starter motor f**ked up. We replaced this, but after a couple of days it started to grind again. So then thought it was maybe the ring gear, but when replacing the ring gear there was two bolts missing from the gearbox and a huge crack right along the side of the gearbox. The guy who had it before said it had a new gearbox fitted, so we reckon when they done it they must have dropped it and put it back in, also forgetting to put two bolts back (dunno how), which meant the gearbox was sitting at an angle, which constantly shagged out the starter motor.
The next day we went down the scrappy, (money was tight lol) to find a gearbox, managed to find a pretty mint one, which is working perfectly at the minute :y:

Anyway!

As i had just spent all my money it was back to the scrappy! :p
The mirrors on the sax didnt come with any caps, so i went out and found some! lol

after:

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh86/wallsy6890/DSC03275-2.jpg

My next small mod was to t-cut the badges:

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh86/wallsy6890/Picture022-1.jpg

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh86/wallsy6890/DSC03265-1.jpg

Was pretty pleased with the outcome :y: btw the exhaust now sits better.

I then got given a boot spoiler as a present, love it!:

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh86/wallsy6890/DSC03479.jpg

Its makes the rear end look so much better!

When i brought the car it didn't have a CD player, so i went out and brought one, its nothing special but does the job ;)

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh86/wallsy6890/DSC03286-2.jpg

I did try make an ipod holder but turned out rather sh*t lol

I also wanted to replace the gear knob because the one on the car had seen better days. (note the sh*t ipod holder in this photo lol)

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh86/wallsy6890/DSC03476-1.jpg

And finally the best mod of them all, sax-p stickers!

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh86/wallsy6890/DSC03473-1.jpg

Thats all ive done so far, been pretty skint lol

few more pics:

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh86/wallsy6890/DSC03472.jpg

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh86/wallsy6890/DSC03471.jpg

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh86/wallsy6890/DSC03458.jpg

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh86/wallsy6890/DSC03454.jpg

Just for the record, the vtr badges were already on the car :P

Future plans

- Mk2 rear lights (already brought)
- Lowered 40mm all round
- Either team dynamic pro race 1.2's, fox evo 3 sprayed black or Vts rims sprayed black.
- Raceland induction kit
- Exhaust system, unsure which one yet, suggestions??
- New grill (without badges)
- Gti interior
- possibly black angel eyes

Hopefully when the money starts rolling in ill get them done :y:

soz for the big pictures and all the writing, didn't realise i wrote that much lol

Comments good or bad welcome!

Chapter 4 - Meshed grill

Right today i saw a thread on here about meshing grills, so thought id give it ago.

Wasn't as hard as i thought it would be... infact it was pretty easy! Really happy with the results:

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh86/wallsy6890/DSC03549.jpg

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh86/wallsy6890/DSC03552.jpg

I havent decided whether to spray my chevrons black and stick them on the grill or not, opinions anyone?

Also, another decision, ive decided instead of getting little things like, raceland kit, lights etc, im gona save up for some wheels as i really dont like mine at the moment.

SOOO im stuck, team dynamic pro race 1.2s black, or O.Z Superturismo in white??????

I really dont know which i prefer, any opinions??

And of course i will lower at some point :P

don't put chevrons in the grill imo, looks good as is, tho i think smoked headlights would look mint.

Chapter 6 - New door badges and painted calipers

Well the car was all fixed last Saturday, and is perfect now :y: , apart from the drivers side front wheel, which now has a few chunks missing from it lol Luckily it wasn't a right off!

Anyway, ordered some badges of Willsy the other day, to replace the vtr badges:

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh86/wallsy6890/DSC03581-1.jpg

Also brought a red rocker cover badge of Willsy, havent put it on yet as i still need to spray the cover. Hopefully do that soon though. ;)

Had some spare time today and found some red hammerite laying around so decided to paint my calipers.

Chapter 7 - Sprayed interior

Bit of an update!

After seeing S1AN3Y's sprayed interior bits, it inspired me to do mine :p

So far ive only sprayed the centre console and air vents. The speaker covers are off and ready to be sprayed but ran out of paint!

The dash before:

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh86/wallsy6890/DSC03615.jpg

Centre console removed:

Finished:

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh86/wallsy6890/Picture042.jpg

Really pleased with the results, makes the dash look loads better imo.

Also re-done my ipod holder with black fabric. Still abit shody, but looks loads better than the blue stuff i used before.

What do you all think? :y:

Cheers fella :y: Ermm its called, citroen artic silver i think, got it from halfords. I was quite pleased with the finish, didnt manage to get any runs :P

Na its quite easy. Theres 5 screws, one at the bottom, two under the radio slot, then in the row of switches (one with the hazards on) the two blank switches on the ends pop out and the screws are in there. Then it all comes out, and you just have to unplug everything. Not hard at all! You should do it. :P

No mate, should be quite easy. The slats which the badge is on is only screwed into the grill, so you would just have to remove the mesh and screw the orignal slats back in. :y:

When taking the rear wheel of though i found some rust in the arch :panic: which was very thin, so decided to fix that before i put the wheels on!

The rust:

Very easy mate! Just give the mirrors a clean so theres no dirt on them, then use some sort of glue (think i used tigerseal) stick the caps to the mirrors, and ya done! I put some masking tape around mine once id stuck it on though, to make sure they set right. Its easy though mate. :y:

Chapter 11 - DIY centre section and Supersprint centre section brought

Have just brought a supersprint centre section from a guy of the forum, will hopefully be here next week sometime. :y: Will update that when it comes.

Was also bored a few weeks ago, and decided to make my own centre section, diy job ftw! lol

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh86/wallsy6890/DSC03651.jpg

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh86/wallsy6890/DSC03654.jpg

Didnt turn out that bad, bit of a bodge, mainly done it just out of boredom tbh, but as i want my car to be half decent i got the supersprint centre section, instead of it all being bodged together.

Lowering

Now i will be lowering my car soon, will be tackling the torsion bar myself with the help of my dad, so thats saving some cash getting it done at a garage! So yeah, decided to go down 40mm. Think thats the best all rounder tbh, especially as i usually have a car full of people so dont want it mega low. Plus as my budget is tight im only going to change the springs on the front, and keep standard shocks, then in the future replace the shocks to better ones.

Anyway was thinking of getting the spax 40mm springs? Heard pretty much good reviews about them, and there cheap.

Any opinions on them?

Cheers fella.

Well was all ready to set off, and my mate left the boot open so just went and shut it and obviously shut it abit to hard and it all just shattered. There was a chip in it before hand so think that weakened it abit.

Anywayyy update!

Window is now all fixed, cost me £75 for window and it to be fitted.

I know the backbox looks abit rough, but will eventually change that for a piper or something along those lines.

Nice car mate.

I see you have a mk2 spoiler on your boot...How did you attach it?

Thanks mate. :y:

Its really easy to do, i used some stuff called tiger seal, think you can get it from places like B + Q, and just put some on each rubber part of the spoiler, then glued it on. Also used some masking tape to hold it in place. Would recommend leaving it for the day though to make sure it drys properly. :y:

na mines down 50 with bilstein shocks all round, i didnt want to skimp on suspension tbh. Do what your budget can afford but 60 would look good!

Cool mate, say yours look perfect! Same, suspensions not something i want to do on the cheap tbh. Might just see how my money situation turns out, would idealy like to get shocks all round, but see how it goes! Cheers though bud. :y:

jamiemol
15th May 2008, 18:02
do the front yourself i did it a few weeks ago with a mate wasnt to hard just make sure that you tie the driveshaft in place put -40mm spax springs on handles really good for just springs and sits nice to

wallsy
15th May 2008, 20:29
Cheers for the advice bud. :y: Will be doing the front myself, and then im gona attempt the back with a little help from the old man. I prefer doing stuff to my car by myself, makes it seem more worth it imo.

Think im gona opt for the 40mm spax springs, as realistically dont think i would have enough money to go down more and replace the shocks. Reckon 40mm would still be a good improvement though.

jamiemol
15th May 2008, 21:41

thanks

wallsy
16th May 2008, 22:16
Cheers for that mate. :y:

The mirrors just have standard saxo mirror caps on them bud. I went down the scrap yard and managed to find a set of another saxo which was the same colour as my car. But if you cant find any the same colour, just primer them and spray them again. To stick them i just used a little bit of tiger seal, worked a treat. :y:

Could try a saxo parts dealer, would probably have some, shouldnt be expensive either.

Right, not overly keen on the front end of the sax, so had a photoshop done with some ideas on what to do.

Not too sure whether i like the grill as it is, so been thinking about doing a custom job on it, and also to mesh the bumper.

Anyway, before:

Photoshop after:

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh86/wallsy6890/4065892994a7849041156o.jpg

What do you all think? I personally quite like it, so think i might have ago at getting it done. :y: Thanks to P-Courty for the photoshop.

For a mk1 saxo, i do like this, luv them wheels, lower it and then leave it mate looks good enough as it is, maybe get VTR interior?

wallsy
27th May 2008, 00:21
Cheers fella. :y: Yeah once ive lowered it, not gona touch the outside, maybe do something to the front, grill wise but other than that leave it. Yeah probably will get something along those lines, or if i can afford it, the GTI leather interior. The westcoast interior sucks! lol.

Future plans though, will be putting a vts engine in it, and rear beam with discs. Should be pretty much sorted then. :y:

Chapter 16 - De-wipered, and de-pinned

Decided to de-wiper the sax yesterday, think it makes it look much more neater at the back now, heres some pics:

Before:

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh86/wallsy6890/Picture1324.jpg

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh86/wallsy6890/Picture1329.jpg

Also de-pinned it the other day, but the grommits i brought to fill the whole kept popping out, so i knocking something together with the old door pins, i know they look tacky sh*t but will do for now. ;)

lol good old scrappys!
Thanks man, took about 15mins to de-wiper it, piss easy job to do, and the grommet you can either get some from halfords. Or if you look in your boot, under the carpet theres a grommet in the middle of the floor which fits the whole exactly, so i just took that out.

Will definitely be getting a standard cap soon, just need to find one. :p

UPDATE: Half lowered...

Attempted lowering the rear of the sax today. Ended up having a lot of help from my old man, but feels good to have actually attempted some of it myself. :p

All went well till it came to getting the torsion bar out, was seriously seized, nearly decided to give up on it. Done it the way the guide explained but ended up just hitting it with a big chisel and then it finally came out.

Really pleased with the results, looks 100% better than before, was originally going for 40mm, but tbh i think its nearer 50mm now. As for the front, will be doing that tomorrow. :y:

Will post pics up tomoz when its all done. :y:

Chapter 18 - Cut out switch

Well as my car has no alarm ive decided to put in a cut out switch. Brought the switch from maplins for £1.79 bargain ;)

Anyway, gona wire it up so that when the switch is off, its cuts out the ignition, so if anyone was to break into my car, it wouldn't start. Obviously will hide the switch somewhere, but heres a pic of the switch, exciting i know ;)

Chapter 19 - cut out switch fitted

As my car has no alarm, or any real security, i decided to fit a cut out switch to it. Basically when ever i leave my car somewhere i turn off the switch , when the switch is turned off, the ignition is cut. Meaning that if anyone was to break into the car, hot wire it etc, it would not start. It will only start when the switch is turned back on. Heres some pics of it all done.

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh86/wallsy6890/Picture1386.jpg

Heres a video of it,

They are better quality than what they look in the photos, were taken of shite camera phone.

Anyway, soldered all the LED's up, went to test it and 4 of the LED's wern't working. So just ordered some more, will have it done this week sometime. :p
