I am new to this forum and need some help a have alot of work done to my saxo vtr 1.6 8v and was looking to put twin 45 delhortos on it as i have them sitting in the garage i havent got the money for throttle bodies so that idea is out the window.
the reason im on here is to try and locate a manifold for the carbs or some info to see if the 205 mi16 or similar engines have the same inlet manifold pattern please help :y:

Wouldnt you have to do away with the standard ECU etc?

yes all injection system wont be used but you just leave the ecu in and disconnect the injection wiring and tape it up out of the way

If they are the side drafts there is no space to fit them. If they are down drafts you get the manifold from GMC. I have one or two for sale and a few carbs as well. You will cave to put very small chokes in your carbs as 45 is way to big.

Carbs will be extremely unlikly to pass the MOT!

45's are overkill for that engine tbh

why not just get throttle bodies?
arent carbs a bit antique roadshow now?

Aye it would just flood your engine the dellorto's like, Bodies ftw :)

how would it flood the engine?
you could make a manifold yourself or get 1 made. i cout probably do 1 for you but would need gaskets off carbs and head to make the flanges.

Would it fuck, you obviously don't know what your talking about.
A well set-up carb conversion would be nearly as good as TB's, carbs are a bit 'old-skool' yeh, but theres nothing wrong with them.

brother had 40's on his escort and performance wise it took it upto renault 5 turbo territory, set up properly they are awesome, the sound is un-beatable but i had same thoughts as you when i got my saxo but i thought the work involved would be just too much, and thought throttle bodies was the better option for saxo
cant you just drop an ax gt engine in and put the 45's on that?? i heard ax gt is equivelent power to vtr engine standard??

so why not just do it to the vtr engine? saves swapping the engines about.

Its definately do-able.
Would require an aweful lot of development and adjustment to get them to work correctly.
Like has been said do away with the fuel injection system.
Yes they are a little bit of an old i dea now but they do the job very well and may not be as efficient as TB's but are just as good IF they are set up correctly.
You may want to get a pro to do it matey, not many people around as there was a few years back that know there way round a set of carbs.
