Is there going to be any issues if I replace the manifold studs with just normal M8 bolts? Im having a hell of a time with these stupid studs, and trying to get my raceland to not blow. Its one issue after another!
I was just thinking, there must be some reason why Citroen used these studs and not just normal bolts.
Anyone help?

See my thread mate. It's a few below this one...
I guess they use studs so it gives you some varience for dealing with the differeing thickness of different manifolds. If you just used a bolt, then it would only be able to go a certain distance into the head. By using studs, you can control the distance the stud sticks out and also how far it drills into the head.
What sort of problems are you having?

Well half of the studs are loose and when you tighten them, they just spin round. So the manifold is blowing really bad, thus making the car not idle properly and it keeps cutting out when I accelerate.

I know someone who used normal bolts in the head. Only put them in for a month of so till he could be bothered to get studs etc. When it come to fitting the studs had to run a tap in the head to re create the thread as it was a bit crap. Also the normal bolts werent on very tight when it come to changing them so must of come loose.

Ok cheers. I think I will try re-tapping them.

no problem. there is a way of getting the studs in tight so they dont come undone. Get to nuts on the stud and tighten them so the lock. Then using a spanner tighten the stud. Then once tight. Use two spanners to unwind the nuts apart. Then they put your manifold on, nuts on and your sorted.

^ ^ Agree'd that's the technique I use, locking two nuts together on the stud then using the outer one to tighten the stud in !!!

Its fibe to use a bolt. As long as you do it nice and tight as a bolt is more likely to shake loose than a stud.
A stud has forces acting on it in two ways a bit like an elastic band. The nut is pulling on it one way, and the thread in the block is holding it in the other way, so it is very unlikely to come undone due to it being held in tension from either way.
But yer, bolts will work fine mate:y:

Cheers for all advice guys. Will be trying it tmrw, if I cant get the studs to work then bolts it is!

Err, did you read my thread like I said? I explained how to get the studs further into the head. Somewhat apt that you should have this issue just after I made the explanation.
