Has anyone using a mocal oil cooler wver know one to fracture??

I got to work this morning and there was oil pouring out of the engine... quick looked showed it was coming from the oil cooler.

Decided to drive home this evening as not a great deal else I could do. Jacked it up, tightened pipe connections to/from the oil cooler, etc and started it up.

Again, oil started to pour out of the base of the oil cooler... I cant see it dripping from above (pipes are obscured from view), it doesnt seem to be coming from the fins... it looks as though an internal weld/joint has ruptured.

Anyone got previous experience of this?

THe only other thing I can think opf is if the oil filter is hugely blocked and its putting massive pressure in the system... doesnt sound likely though. :n:

I have had my cooler for a while and its fine..

If its leaking out of the bottom it must be fractured, i would have thought if there was a blockage it would have leaked from the pipes/connections more so than crack/fracture the actual cooler..

Cant see it happening, but if thats where its coming from then get it off and have a good look around

can you not whip it off and get someone at work to do a wee water pressure test on it??

or have it tested with a fracture indicator die?

YEs, could get it pressure tested...

Its feckin snowing though... so think the plan will be to whip it off, get a bobbin piece made up to link the cooler out for now. If the leak stops, I ned a new cooler.. if not, it must be a pipe that has a hidden leak.

Hopefully will know in the morning... unless I wimp out as its freezing :P

Simo, stop been a wimp, im putting my R wheels on tomorrow, just been out, and the snow is now solid ice... police man fell over in town on it :y:

id just bypass the cooler though Simo, see if its still leaking, if it is, its gota be one of the billion pipes in your engine bay

Had to go into work this morning, but just managed to strip the cooler off before it went dark! God damn those awkwrd bolts I fitted to secure it in place :P

Well, its definately the cooler, which is split. I was hoping it would be a pipe, but they were all as dry as a bone. I took the cooler off and pressurised it with an air compressor.

Oil is leaking from the end plate, so one of the channels must be split internally.

I'll try to get a replacement tomorrow, but that could involve a trip to Wrexham :err: Failing that, I could join the pipes together as a temporary measure.

The joys of a modified car :P
