pipe or filter?

hi guys, just wondered if having a oil breather filter instead of an oil breather pipe made any difference.
its just as my slandered one snapped of my cover of the air filer box.
so just wondered if replacing it with a little breather filter would make a difference...if any, rather than getting a new pipe. thanks.

only difference it will make is the mess in the engine bay from the oil vapour
