on friday night i went to turn corner bought 20mph and i lost the front end on ice and i regained control of the front and manged to turn then back skidded into kerb really hard, i got no body damage just bent my rear axle or torsion bar so back wheels are lyk \\ | | and the wheel is scrubbing on the boot side!! :n:

i was wondering if a 1.4 mk1 axle would fit a 1.1 mk2?? and how easy would it to do my self as theres a 1.4sx in scrappys by me:y: would any special tools be needed??? only reason i cant take it into garage is that i only have £270 which i doubt will get me far:n:

is it possible or think i should save for a garage??

rep given to everybody

I think all axles will fit... maybe not very easily if your chassis is bent :P

I think there are only a few varieties so for a straight forward swap just match...

- Drums 3 stud
- Drums 4 stud
- Disks 4 stud
- Disks 4 stud with abs

Think that’s it... someone correct me if I'm wrong though

Then there’s just 4 bolts (2 in the under boot carpet and 2 under back seats), 2 brake hoses and the handbrake cable holding the whole assembly on! Just have to take the exhaust off (cat back) and the spare wheel off! And it should be a simple swap!

Only special tools you will need are a deep 18mm socket (most socket sets skip 18mm:homme: ), a brake hose spanner and a piece of clear pipe to bleed the brakes.

i dont have rear discs so i wont need to bleed them will i cause i only have drums???

nope you still need to bleed the brakes, you have to disconect them to get old axle out

Marcos
17th February 2008, 19:10
right ok then how easy are they to bleed?

Why dont you just uprate to a VTR rear axle with disks?

Marcos
17th February 2008, 19:20
cause im skint and i need to be able to do it my self as i cant afford garage atm and theres only a 1.4sx in scrappy

its just that ur profile says ur cars soon to be a vts and if you go through with it i would imagne ur going to need the extra stopping power of the disks?

Marcos

o right sorry bud but the way it says it give me the impression your doing a engine conversion. Back to the point, i did my rear axle for £200 with brand new brakes on it me n 2 mates fitted it (as it is quite heavy) 4 bolts and the whole thing drops mate really easy to do but as said before just make sure u have a brake hose spanner.

Marcos
17th February 2008, 20:01
right ok then cheers only thing im gonna struggle with it is getting it home im going to see if i can borrow a tranny van from work for the afternoon.. and will a adjustable spanner do??? if not il buy one do you no how much they are???

i'd just buy one mate there only really small you should be able to pick one up from halfrads or sumwere like that for a few quid. You will always have it then if you need to use it again.

Marcos

the rear track of a vtr/ vts is wider and base models struggle with space for tyre width, so rubbing is more likely with a vt axle.

sure il do it on thursday for you, does your dad have a driveway?

i payed 150 quid for a vtr rear axel with disks and pads,
you cant convert the 1.1. 1.4 axel over to acomidate disks as the spindels arnt long enough.

yeah i know you can put a vtr axel on a 106 quicksilver
however you cant get a axel that has drums on it and change the drums for disks as the spindels arnt long enough and the wheel would rub on the axel
