:y: ok guys , currently i am driving a vts, heres its spec
-catcams 708's
-supersprint 4-2-1 manifold
-peco full stainless zaust system
-bmc cda
basically i was just wondering what else you guys would reccomend me to do before i get a remap as i was wondering if i could do much else to gain power without tb's or supercharger!! would i benefit from a fuel pressure regulator?? also i was wondering is the head on a vts restricting it in anyway and also what agins would i see form getting head work done and is it worth the money??!!
A local guy has also hinted at me towards forged pistons as thay are supposed to provide good power gains!!??
Any help would be great thanks!!

get rid of peco for a start to gain power. forged pistons with change the compression ratio, will not give huge gains but do give some, they will allow you to run wild cams if you go bodies easy!
heads theres a huge thing going on at the moment, where depending on cam profile its show HUGE differences, that is headwork by qep.

Yep, as Ryan said.
The next "step" is a big leap to be precise. If you want the best out of your current setup, get the engine management sorted. RDC are currently working on an affordable, replacement ECU, which should be just as benificial as going for a well known standalone ECU setup, but at a lesser cost.
You need to make a decision about what you want from the car. There's no cheap option now to gain a decent amount of power, it's all £££. If I was in your shoes, I would look at 3 possible lines to go down:
1) Make the best of what you've got - Get the engine management sorted with a standalone setup. Nothing else
2) Budget "next step" - Replace the stock intake with iTBs, install a gas flowed, performance cylinder head and upgrade the engine mangement as above.
3) Expensive "next step" - As above, and also: Fit wilder cam shafts, solid lifters, forged pistons, and possibly a head with bigger valves.
Finally, as answer to your question about gains with a performance head... From what I've seen in the past with QEP worked cylinder heads on lumps running 708s, there's normally around a 4-8 gain in BHP.

Hi fella,
Just to backup what Toad has said, The next step would be to get the best from your current setup up.
Our Plug 'n' Play standalone ECU will be available shortly for a very reasonable cost (circa £700 fitted and mapped)
We are also developing a Plug and Play Throttle Bodie kit that will also be available within a few weeks, this setup is fully compatible with our plus and play ECU and we will not charge for remapping the system to suit the throttle bodies kit, saving as much as £400 :)
Our ECU and TB kit will be available as a package which will save our customers even more by having them both fitted at once.
Hope this info proves useful, feel free to give us a call for some more in-depth info :)

don't know the Peco system, but straigh-through one will helpful before you remap.
straight throught got lots of know how, size, muffle, material... should take some time to study before action, my previously one was Devil systems, there are a little block after 4000rpm, now I used the modified straigh through the block was gone.:clapping:

wrong, you dont allways want a straight through system.
sometimes boxes are placed into the system at set points to aid pulse tuning.

Yep, hence why the Grp N system for the 106 has a "dummy" cat...

from what ive seen alot of NA systems pulse tuning is far more important than boost, where just bore and less resistant systems seem favoured.

id look at transmission mods next tbh get the power down to the wheels

Pressumably you are relying on the physical build of the system, i.e., the exhaust manifold, downpipe, exhaust... ? I don't know much about this, but I can't see a lot you can do management wise, to "tune" the pulses. :ponder:

where boxes are and different bores etc....

The only thing the exhuast really is "desiged" for on an NA car is the get the gases out, as fast as humanily possible.
Back pressure is NOT an issue :)

there is no doubt, more power go to straight throug, street go to chambered.;)
of course there are lot's of trick, but this post are asking something before remap, so don't talk too much of detail, you can google and got lot's of proof.
here is the one I used:

cheers guys!! dnt think i want to go throttly bodies! maybe in the future!!
will have to get a look into getting my management sorted, i would love the plug and play setup form rcd but unfortunatly i am form northern ireland and it would b abit awkward to get it installed!!
will maybe look into getting a good gas flowed cylinder head!!
Thanks 4 all the useful advice!!

We can come out for the cost of a flight matey :)
Fiting can be done anywhere :)

QEP imo would be your best choice for headwork going by some resent results on the dyno/flow bench.
if you want to go bodies in the future get an ecu now, emerald do brilliant systems and irc dave walker remps them cheaper if you bought the ecu from them
