View Full Version : What do people think on this...

... the girlf has been going on at me ever since we had to sell the MR2 Roadster... she loved having the convertible and I must admit so did I. Thing is, we are after a new car and it's gonna be our only car, so would need to be practicle and be able to use it everyday.... well I don't think a normal ragtop style convertible is practical for everyday use, so it got me thinking about CC's (Coupe/Convertibles).
I looked them up and we both like the looks of the Renault Megane Coupe Convertible.... plus they do them in a 1.9l dci diesel, which is just what we are after. I thought this would be a good idea as it has the practicality and security of a Coupe, but the coolness and conveinience of a convertible.
What are people's thought on these??
Chris :)

307cc?
Chris
27th February 2008, 10:18
The 206, 207, micra, mitsi colt are all too small and have pointless back seats, whereas this has more room in the back plus is the cheapest 4 seater CC compared to the Eos, Twintop etc.

Old mans misses uses hers everyday, does a 30 mile trip to work and back in it and shes not had one problem in over 2-3 years ownership. So pretty reliable from what I can see.
The only problem she had was when she hit a deer and needed to replace a front bumper..

With the right wheels on it can look more sporty, but then I'm not fussed if it doesn't look that sporty as it has other benifits, i.e. it's a convertible!

Cant go wrong with a convertable esspecially if its a hard top thats one if the reasons i went for mine lol.
New renaults are produced to a much hugher standard than the old ones so that would be a good one to go for.

Cheers Man.... well I've booked the Astra in to the body shop to get the few scuffs and stone chips sorted (well, he's rubbing down the front and rear bumpers, both front wings and the bonnet and respraying them all)... just gotta get the brakes sorted, then it should be up for sale at the end of March IMO.... then we can start to seriously look for another car and these meganes are pretty much near the top at the mo.

yea as you know its good but naughty.. diesel cars these days are far better than petrol rivals (considering price of tax - petrol - insurance ) , golfs for examples, me lasses dad has a gt tdi 140odd bhp 0-60 guessing about 8.5 torque like only a petrol could dream off and mpg still 50's your laughing

I hate them. I hate the fact that they weigh sooo much, I hate the way they are soulless style products. I hate the idea of a diesel cabrio, who wants to hear that engine?
I do however see that it does make huge amounts of sense. It hits all your requirements, it’s spacious, has a nice interior and will be cheap to run. It’ll be like having a normal Megane for most of the time and then in the summer it’ll be lovely when the suns out.
I say buy one and ignore the fact that I have an irrational hatred for them!

Length in mm
4573 - A4
4720 - C70
4355 - Megane
4290 - Astra Coupe
Therefore the Audi is only 22cm longer than the Megane.
Audi would be easier to manouvre as well as the wheels are stuffed into the corners

small, economical, and you can still look a twat in them like the audi, volvo and renault.
Need to fit the shopping in it and luggage when we go away, plus we like to give people lifts every now and then!
Still wouldn't look as much as a Twat as you, no matter what car we decide to go for..... hehehehehe! :y:

i hate the people that have there roofs down at night with a passion.

^^^Tis true. You do tend to drop/remove the roof on every abailable opportunity. Only problem is if you get stuck in traffic alongside busses, kids temd to see what they can land in your cockpit!

I'd drop it down whenever it wasn't raining and have the heater on in the cold

It's not all about having sun on your head, it's about having fresh air around you. Imagine a warm muggy summers night with the hood down blowing fresh cool air into the car, beats air con imo

I rarely ever "blare" my music,
i think the reason behind this is partially because i still have standard paper speakers.

Can't say I have mine blaring nowadays...... my sensitive little ears can't take loud music in confined spaces anymore.... that's why my sub and amp haven't been installed in the last 2 cars I've owned!!!!

Went and had a look at one of these over the weekend and they are really nice cars.... definitely decided that the Megane Coupe/Convertible is what we are getting once we've sold the Astra Coupe!
It's a lot of car for the money... fast folding panoramic glass roof... keyless entry... push button start... half leather interior... headlight sensors... window wiper sensors... large boot (when roof is up).
Really nice car!!! Can't wait!
